Tin Shelter Building Steps for Peafowl

Amazing how fast green peafowl draw interest!

I am excited to go carport shopping tomorrow!

I love the advise I can get on here.

I was going to, but I decided not to. I think I might hold out to get younger greens. I really enjoy having tame, friendly peafowl so I think getting young green peafowl would be my best bet. I do want to watch them mature and color out too. I was definately seriously considering that Imperator pair though. AugeredIn is selling the pair here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/952031/imperator-peafowl-for-sale
I think they will sell quickly he already has gotten lots of interest in them.

I love the carport idea, I think someone on here has used one to make multiple pens.

I think I heard about that....

This side is waiting for the 30 x 50 run.

This side has two 9 x 10 coops and the runs on this side will be divided into two 15 x 50 runs.

The left side is divided into four 5 x 9 coops/brooders and have two 15 x 25 runs.

Only two things left to do on this side is to put the divider netting up between the two runs and bury the perimeter wire in the ground once it dries up enough to dig.

This carport I bought from my sister who lives nearby, but we had another put up for our outdoor waterboiler. Yes, for around $599 they will come out and assemble it for you by a crew who at least one of speaks English. The extra side tin/metal can be bought from most any of the big box stores, and if you ask they normally have seconds/rejects or return metal for reduced cost if you are not picky about the color.

Minx, here are some shots of the inside to give you some ideas. A simple wall in the center to divide it into two like @AugeredIn , suggested would work well for you. I was wanting to have some small pens for chicks and for broody hens to set on eggs, some smaller breeding pens, and some grow out runs. With this I have all the above options.

And here is how I made the loafing type shed and runs.

Each of these three pens are 12 x 32.

I covered the roosts not only for protection from the elements but protection from guineas roosting on top of the pen.
There is also a water misting system for hot weather.

The coops are 8 x 12, the pen is 12 x 32.

Hope you can get some ideas here!

Thanks for all of your photos! I will show these to my Dad. How tall is the roof and the roosts?

I am mainly just needing a basic shelter so probably nothing split. I don't really have room to have a second pen attached to the shed. Since I don't live at my Grandma's I keep all peachicks at my house in an outdoor elevated pen.

My Mom had an interesting idea...She said we could get that plastic that is shaped like tin (it is hard plastic used on greenhouses) and use it for the back of the shelter to let light in. I really like that idea. What do you all think? If the clearness of the plastic wall would be too confusing for the peafowl, I could try a trick that I read a zoo did for a bird exhibit that had a glass viewing window: When the birds were first released into the exhibit, the zookeepers made soap squiggle marks all over the glass window so that the birds could see that there was a window there and know to avoid it. Once the birds got settled in and used to the exhibit, they cleaned the window so that it was all clear glass. I might not use soap, but I could use something to temporarily mark the clear plastic wall.

Today my Dad and I are going to go around looking at carports. Yesterday we were going to, but we were both too busy. Luckily I can bring my phone and reference this topic while we are searching. So far online we were looking at Carolina Carports. I think my Dad got his tin barn from there.
