Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

If it was my kid she'd tell dad as soon as he came inside. Hope you feel better soon

Me too! Been in this room since 11am yesterday. Had to drop off my favorite Ayam Cemani cockerel to his new home and felt like garbage on my way back. Can’t breathe for crap. Fever the entire time. Body aches, and they really show the injuries from the car accident too. Holy cow.

He’s her step dad, so I win! 😉

I think he likes them...

D14 candling results...

My questionable Ameraucana egg is no longer questionable - very strong movements in there, veins look good! It's crazy to me that just a couple days ago it looked like it was dead? It was so mushy looking and no movement whatsoever.

My questionable BBS marans egg showed no improvements so I decided to pull and eggtopsy. Ended up being an early quitter, looks like around D7 :(. Poor guy.

Everyone else looks good! Sitting at an average of 11% weight lost so far, not sure if that is too fast or slow? Would love some input there, my humidity dips a little low overnight in the jn12 incubator but I haven't been worrying about it...more afraid of high humidity!

My salmon faverolles seem to have developed wonky air cells - two of them are on the side of the eggs. Am I correct to think that I should position the egg for hatching so the air cell is facing slightly up?

Started with 22 eggs, down to 14. 7 were not fertilized and only one has quit on me, so my viable hatch rate is 93%! Let's hope they all hatch! 🤞 I think I'm going to stop turning now to give the babies plenty of time to get into position (would love input here, too) and I'm going to check air cells and weight again on D18 to see if I should make any last minute adjustments and then add shelf liner and lock down!

Day 21 for me is on Tuesday, so I’m hoping all are hatched no later than Thu - Fri. I got some EE from TSC and those will be a week or two old by the time mine hatch. Can I integrate them right away or do I need to give the newbies some alone time first?

I like to give my newly hatched chicks a few days when I can but I have immediately integrated as well. Tilting a heat plate helps a lot when doing this because the new chicks will all cuddle on the lower end of the heat plate and sleep off their hard work from hatching while the other chicks are running around crazy because they're 2 weeks old. lol
