Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

D16 be like..... :caf

I want to meet my babies!

Average weight loss is already at 13% so I'm a little nervous that I've gone too dry? Someone make me feel better 😬 lol. Everyone was moving for me!

No worries, just increase the humidity a bit now. They will be fine, you're only 2 days off from optimal. 11-13% by day 18 is what is desired.

So maybe keep it closer to 50% now? I don't want anyone to drown, either. This is why I want to get really good at dry hatching...which may really only be an option once warmer weather hits. We have really dry winters here.

What kind of incubator are you using? That's going to make a big difference on what I recommend.

I walked past a box, and decided to make an incubator, it took me 30 min tops, but I had all the "ingredients". And I have made them before.

Box is an 11x14'' some holes in bottom, opposite side holes above for air flow.
below are what you need to build...
I put a foam lid on this one, you don't have to have that, it can be cardboard. I just had that so I used it.

A box, old lamp (not a crazy dangerous one, knife, scissors, heavy duty gorilla tape, foam lid if you like. Not pictured but foil on bottom of box, and make sure the bulb is only 15 w, and doesn't touch cardboard, just foil. below is a hole in box for lamp then cover hole with tape.

and wire near top if box hung by super strong gorilla tape the wire is on the upper 1/3 of the box. Heat rises so I like this. I put more tape on than shown.

I also cut off the flaps to put foam lid on top. Then tape the foam lid down all around. You do not lift the lid to turn eggs, cut a hole in foam and tape a glass window on one side, you will lift the flap to turn eggs. All that is needed now is a dish of water, I put it on the wire with the eggs, and I test it with a thermometer for a day.

I try to not let eggs touch walls. I don't over fill with eggs.
