Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

I agree! I live in Central Florida and ordered eggs from a seller on the east coast. I should have driven the 2 hours to pick them up, but I'm recovering from surgery. They shipped to Orlando, but then to Tampa (west coast), and then to Ybor City, before getting to my local post office. After going through 3 different distribution centers I am not holding out much hope. Also sheds some light on why they seem to lose money.
I agree, Iam also from central fl (pasco county) thought I would try shipped eggs and hope to have some viable ones that make it and hatch, good luck to you

I am incubating BBS ameraucana! Very excited and looking to order a couple more colors 😂 I'm in love with the fluffy cheeks and pretty eggs, what can I say!

I'm checking again tomorrow, but I think 3 of my 5 lavender orpington eggs are not fertilized. Is this typical of all orpingtons early in the year or????

You may have already answered this, but where did you get the BBS Ameraucana eggs from? I have some in my incubator too, but am thinking of doing them again next month.

Northwoods Poultry located in Florence, WI. She is super nice and has the cleanest barn for her chickens that I have ever seen. She doesn't list splash as a possibility when hatching her Ameraucana eggs, but by understanding of blue genetics is that you could get blue, black, or splash hence BBS. All of her birds are gorgeous, I could have spent so much money there but my husband was there to reign me in 😂

I'm also dying for some Ameraucanas (or even just EEs with muffs and pea combs!). I had one several years ago, but she's not with us anymore. I've hatched some EE eggs every year since she died, and only gotten males. This year I asked for some ameraucana from two different sources that were selling blue eggs and who said they had ameraucanas - and each source gave me legbars instead! I love legbars, but I'm still a little disappointed. Oh well . . . gives me an excuse to hatch again next year, right?

With getting shipped eggs, you need to let them sit for about 24 hours, is this correct.
I am wondering if I received eggs on thursday, can I store them until the next thrusday when a 2nd shipment of eggs are due to arrive or should I do a staggered hatch

Yes, most people allow shipped eggs to rest 8-24 hours. Without knowing how old the eggs were during collecting and shipping I wouldn't wait another week personally. Viability will start to drop off as the eggs age, especially once you're setting eggs that are older than 7-10 days past lay.
