Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

The little white one is the one I'm talking about. The other egg is from my barred rock. I know almost for sure it's her egg because I don't have any other white layers in my flock. Last time I handled her she was more feathers than anything. She's very petite and short.

She mates with the silver sebright, they're like a bonded pair. They even sleep together at night. It's kind of cute

Yay! I am a first time home hatcher. All of my babies will be barnyard mixes but I'm still excited to see what we get. My girls are Australorps, BOs, RIR, SLW, and an EE. My leading roo is a Barred Holland. There are "officially" 18 eggs in there but I may have snuck 3 more in when my hubby wasn't looking. I'm most excited, if they hatch, are the mixes between our SLW x Barred roo and the EE x Barred roo.

Barnyard mixes are my specialty. I got all pure bred chicks at first then I startedmixing all of them. I've had some very interesting chicks. I also get barnyard mixes from two other local farms with bartering people love to barter here. This month I have duck eggs in hatching for another farm... My payment is 3 ducklings

I'm super excited about whatever hatches but my mother-in-law has been throwing some shade on my parade. I'm borrowing their old incubator to do the hatch and only after I set the eggs did she inform me that they'd never had more than a 50% hatch rate using it Since it is my in-laws and my first time raising and trying to hatch eggs I'm not in a position to really suggest maybe they were doing something wrong. I've been reading everything I could find before I set the eggs to try and ensure a healthy hatch so trying to keep my hope up for that "50%". I forgot to say I set the eggs on Feb 20th and I'm using a little giant still air incubator (non-digital) with the automatic egg turner.

I usually lock down on day 14 for chicken eggs because the last week you really don't need to turn them.

The eggs are really small. I'll take a picture of them right now. I'm not sure what size eggs Polish are supposed to lay, but I'm sure this isn't what Polish are supposed to lay.

My polish eggs average around 42 grams, which is a "Peewee" grade. For comparison, a standard "Large" egg is about 56-63 grams. So, they're definitely on the small side.

That's definitely a bantam. I was under the impression that all polish were bantams but I could be wrong.

I would take off the duct tape from the holes because they help the air to circulate into the incubator

Good luck! I've had great hatches in those incubators so I'd be more inclined to think it was her method rather than the incubator.

Maybe they are I don't know because I've never had them. I just thought she looked cool when I was at the swap and I picked her up

Have you ever hatched Polish eggs, do they hatch earlier than 21 days? I don't no why I'm asking this now because I never put any thought into it until today I'm so used to doing chicken eggs from my farm and them hatching on 21 days. Today I had some miraculous thought that maybe these hatch early because they're bantam

Ok I was wondering what those holes were and my husband came up with the idea for the duck tape.
