Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

Would I be able to jump in on this? Just put 12 eggs in my new bator, getting some more this week to add to the chaos. Not my first hatch but will be by far my largest! I’ve only ever done 6 at a time in the bator, so this will be interesting!

Welcome! Absolutely! The more there merrier! What are you hatching?

The more photos there are, the better :) it’s nice to see what other people are hatching.
Okay! Wonderful!

Out of the 12 that are in, 8 are silkie x serama (not intentional! mini serama man figured out how to escape his pen and get with the silkies) and 4 are absolute mutts. No idea who the mamas or daddies are, so it’ll be a fun guessing game once they hatch! Neighbors are happily donating their hoards of duck and chicken eggs to my cause as well. It should hopefully be a fun turnout! :fl:D

It’ll be my first time incubating the little ones! I’ve had broodies hatch them out (just had 7 pop out the other day! :jumpy) but I’ve only ever incubated our backyard mutts. Almost 100% hatch rate each time! Of course, that’s been indoors and in a Brinsea. These guys will be in our garage (read: chicken temple) because the family decided that, after the first and last exploding egg, I will only ever incubate outside. Can’t say that I blame them, though.

After only one little bitty bomb going off? Lol, I get it. I've been fortunate that I haven't had any explode but I've had a few stinkers that were probably close.

It was an egg-tomic bomb. Seriously! We left for a few hours, came back and we could smell it from the driveway. The windows were open because it was a nice day out, but man it was a wall of stench the second the front door opened. Never again, I was told. So now I’ll be incubating in what’s basically a chicken church. I have brooders and hatchers all ready to go, even though the eggs just went in. Oops.

Is it your first time in that incubator? Mine doesn't hold a steady temp unless I leave it in the Styrofoam it came in. If you look at the instructions, they include it as a part. I think they call it an insulator. Sorry if you already know this.
