Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

Should I be concerned about this peep? It's chirping and I saw its beak move. Is it blood I'm seeing (the brownish) or what? I suppose it could just be the chick. They are blue Ameraucanas, so I could get black chicks, too.View attachment 2044820

I'm sitting on my hands, but very curious about it! I got to watch the BBS marans chick hatch - so cool.
Chick looks good to me.

only problem I could see would be feathers getting in the way. 🤔 now I’m curious. Lol.
thats great! I know an awesome vet tech here that didn’t want to do gen practice and is in research now. Lots of options out there. :)
My feeling on the issues surrounding caponing would be based primarily on animal welfare. Not sure about elsewhere but here the requirements are constantly changing for so many things. I might look into that, usually CVMA puts out position statements on things like that... lots of food for thought. :)
Yeah, you'd probably have to pluck a few feathers to get a smooth surface. Mine is especially finicky with that.

Looks good to me too!!

I did an internship for a long time at a vet's office so I'm doing everything possible. I feel like it's more internal than anything. Possibly a fight with the Jersey giant, but I will not blame him at all. It's their nature and poor HeiHei probably overstepped his boundaries he set.

If he continues to live and keep showing me he can fight, I'll continue to do everything in my power to help him. So far he's eating (liquid foods) I gave him some vegan protein broth this morning. I'm about to give him some electrolytes.
When I’ve had chickens get sick, I add turmeric to their feed and wet all of it. It seems to help. I use it for myself for wounds. I couldn’t give any specific amounts. I just took a glass jar, added chicken feed and tumeric and water.

He can't eat. I'm tubing feeding him. I put colloidal silver with his feedings, vitamins, and electrolytes. Right now he's just getting vegan protein broth because he needs liquids but this has enough calories to sustain him so he won't drop weight.
