Tolbunt Polish

Well, apologies if I'd use incorrect as the word, but, at least from what I've been told, it is not what we're going by anymore. At least, it isn't what I am going by at the moment. Not sure why, just my opinion based on observations, but I'd imagine it is because no one seems to have birds close to it, and everyone is going by what they've been for a while - lacing.

When I first got into Tolbunts I saw the standard and noticed no US breeders/stock had the black blobs (versus lacing) and asked the breeder of which I got my birds about it, and if my arriving stock would follow the standard. I was told it would (it didn't) and that they are indeed breeding by it. After that I've been told otherwise, which makes sense personally, so, I at least go with the lacing standard. Which, I know, isn't online and available, but is pretty straight-forward.

What I am finding is..... like you Illia "I have been told" is a pretty common response. Maybe it is just me, but I don't believe "what I have been told" ......I like to find out what is really true. I have been doing this research only to gather knowledge of the breed. The Standard published on the US Polish Club appears to consider lacing a defect. Probably because of the GP influence. If everyone continues to do their own thing this variety will be pretty mixed up in short order.

I don't raise them, I am only researching this because my APA Committee has been approached re admission to the APA SOP. It does not appear this will be possible anytime soon. The imports have been here since 2000 and IMO the breed is going backwards instead of forward. Too bad, since it is a really pretty variety.

My son who is 6 and who NEVER spends any of his money has decided he wanted to buy some Tolbunt hatching eggs. I warned him they are VERY expensive, but he said he really wanted some. So can anyone help me out and lead me the direction to find some to purchase. I checked the forum for eggs for sale but only could find older auctions.

Try Dave Schwartz- he is breeding them and also sells eggs. You will get Tolbunts and splits with his eggs.

Good Luck!

If your son is interested in buying Tolbunt chicks i will be putting a few extras (5) that i hatched up for auction later this week. From what i can tell i have two boys and three girls. The flock that laid these eggs consisted of one pure Tolbunt Rooster over over three tolbunt polish hens and one gold laced polish hen. One of my tolbunt hens is frizzled and all the rest of the flock is smooth. Ruth

Thanks for giving me a heads up. I will hopefully remember and check it out and see how it goes. Maybe if it ends in time I might be able to win and have them here for his party next Saturday? And he could still get himself some eggs.

I ordered 6 chicks (3 cream legbar and 3 birchen maran) from a certain well-known breeder and had them flown in to me same day to cut-down on shipping stress for the wee ones. Well, they sent me a total of 15 day old chicks.

Among them are 4 Tolbunt Polish of which I know nothing about.

I know that polish experts are very clever in sexing based on "crest" or something. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the sex of this one is. It is the only one that has this look to its "hat" thingy.

The other three have hats that are more "spikey" looking.

Any help is appreciated.
