Tolbunt Polish

Just hatched out this little one yesterday. Had to take some pics because I really like the looks of this Tolbunt chick.

Just curious if anyone has had this. I've hatched about 20-30 chicks from my tolbunts so far, I had three hatch out that appear to be solid white. I'm hanging on to them to see how they feather and if there is any bleed through color. Just curious if anyone else has had that.

We were just talking about this on the FB group. Houdans have whites come out every once in awhile.

As Tolbunt is a 'created' variety, I think you must expect that not all will breed true to type.

Well, that's what I assumed had happened, was just surprised to find the 3 all white chicks.

I hatch with many different breeds in the hatcher at once, all the breeds are identifiable. I knew what kind of egg went in and was puzzled by the one white chick (and missing chick from the hatched tolbunt egg). At first I thought maybe DH had mislabeled an egg when he collected. The next time, when two whites hatched, I watched them come out of the eggs and they had definite topknots at hatch.

Just seemed funny to have 20+ tolbunts marked and 3 white. I probably won't keep them long-term, I'm not a huge fan of white birds and they are so difficult to keep sparkling clean for the shows. But I do want to see how they growout.

The parents are almost certainly split for recessive white. If you have more than one hen, then chances are with the percentages of whites you are getting that some of the hens are not split.
