Hi fellow tolbunt lovers. I was wondering what color you would get by crossing a tolbunt rooster with a splah hen. I saw an ad on rare breed auctions' site, and someone was selling a pair stating that it was rare. Does anyone out there know about genetics? Would it even be a good idea to breed to two?

Sorry no longer working on them. Sold all my bantams. I'm selling out of polish altogether, just have my tolbunt flock available for sale. Kristin has some real cute bantam prospects for her project. There are a few other breeders also working on bantam size.

Replying to the second to last post - You'd get all blue birds with males that have random red leakage in the wings, neck, and saddle. If the bird is white crested splash, the offspring will also have varying amounts of white in their crest.

It would be a long road of much experience and know-how to work with the offspring and get back to the original Tolbunt again while also of course really paying attention to the bird's general body, adhering to the standard - But it can be done. (I did it with WCB hens and two Tolbunt boys) I just don't recommend anyone do it unless they really know what they're doing and believe in hard culling.

By the way, been gone a long time, always nice to catch up and read everyone's posts since I last was online here. Love everyone's birds and progress Since my original two Tolbunt boys I'm now 3 generations forward at the most, with still some of my old F1 gals at the oldest. Lost a lot of birds due to dogs (ugh, long story of serious stress there) but still have a very nice rooster and a small handful of hens with a fairly good sized handful of chicks. No recent pictures though, as I've also been battling camera issues for a few months.
