TOLBUNT COLOR DESCRIPTION

Plumage: each feather should be 50% light reddish brown, 25% black, and 25% white. Colors on feather should begin as grey-brown near the skin, surface color beginning as light reddish brown, going to a black blob, then a white blob at the end of the feather.

Undercolor: Grey-brown

notes on color: A tendency toward black lacing on the light reddish brown is permitted, but not encouraged. The ideal feather will have the black and white as blobs on the feathers, not lacing.

DEFECTS

* Overall color too dark or too light

*Colors fading into each other and not distinct

*Any appearance of three or more solid white feathers in either wing or the tail.

Ok, since I confused some people here is the breakdown of the beginning of it for me......

I started falling in love with them when i first saw them, but no one would part with any. A fellow BYCer gave me Chili Pepper, who I adored. I bred him to a GL, and got Hot Stuff, my F1. I lost CP earlier that year due to unknown reasons.

Through the kindness of another breeder who heard about my loss, I obtained 2 roos.

I have these 2 tolbunt roos
over GL hens and one F1 hen (Hot Stuff) and one white hen w/ black splotches who's brother has gold barring and black.

I then started hatching eggs. I lost a lot of chicks, they would make it to a week or so old then start dieing. I found if I only brooded them together, no other chicks, or with my pheasants they survived better.
Some chicks look like Tolbunt chicks, others look like GL.

As they've grown...........

I have went from falling in love with them, to wanting to help develop the breed and strengthen the lines. I am no way an expert, not even close, and love to listen to advice on what I should be doing. I just know that I love them.

Still, love your outcome though! Makes me sooo impatient. And I of course have to wait even longer.

See, Roo #1 is what I was afraid of - Losing the mahogany color and perhaps gene. Roo #2 is really nice though, I just hope you are able to continue keeping that reddened color. Still, I love where your flock is going. Also, I know you had a lot of chick losses, but congrats on how many survived!

CP, well he was an unusual one, but I loved him so.... RIP my sweet boy.

There are no BL in with the Roos, only the one white hen with the BL/WCB in her background. The pick of the 3 were of CP's daughter Hotstuff, The BLish Roo Starburst (not used), his Sister Lily- useing her as she has the lacing in her and her brother as well as black points now and WCB in her background.

Honestly I'm thinking CP might have had speckled sussex behind him. It is another color with a nice deep red tone, and goes along with the old proposed standard. Someone might have used them to improve Tolbunts, and out comes a cockerel with a VERY big single comb, but you can still see the V behind it.

Yes, his comb gave him lot's of personality, it curled up by his head into 2 horns. He was a very sweet roo and despite his flaw I miss him dearly.

Well, here's an interesting shot of my smooth cockerel. He doesn't always look like this, but now that he crows, he stands in this posture more often. . . . Doesn't this scream "American Gamefowl," or "Orloff" behind him?

His tail is getting pretty high in the angle, for sure.

Although I hope my girls with him will fix that. I just still am in the serious need of a gold laced hen, because my best I have right now is this girl. . . (pardon the wet crest)

Though I know she should theoretically give yellow laced offspring with some tolbunt-white tipping, I'm still keeping all her eggs and hatching them for now.

My Tolbunts have started laying! Have gotten 3 eggs from them so far. We are putting them in the bator tomorrow for the New Years day hatch and

they will be fertile!
