Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

So is this the electrified one? Also what do you have on top some kind of poultry netting? I would think the snow would make that cave in

Yes it’s electrified. And above it I just have some bird netting to deter hawks and such. We have had a lot of snow and so far it hasn’t caved. As you can see it is sagging a bit but I just shake it off and it is holding up fine. Fingers crossed.

I imagine it would be hard to do something like this on rocky, non-flat ground. The bottom horizontal wire isn’t hot, but all the above horizontal ones are. It doesn’t completely short out when it touches something but it will definitely make it less powerful, and it isn’t all that strong to begin with.

Sorry I got way off topic and hijacked this thread. Another question: Does the premiere one fencing ever go on sale?

lol, I certainly don't mind. It's all chickens to me! We might as well chat while waiting for chicks to hatch! It's all sharing and learning. 😊

By the way, I love your coop and run! It is similar to mine, my husband just made ours super tall because he's 6'2" and wanted to be able to walk around in there unhindered...so it's his height at the lowest point, lol.

Looking at your wooded area I really feel like the netting would work just fine for you! Just rake some leaves back and step on it to get in anchored in the ground (when it's not frozen, lol)

Yeah as long as you can get the netting flush with the ground it could work well. I have a feeling my girl that keeps escaping is going under so if you can get it secure on the ground it would probably work. And if you clear sticks and branches you could electrify it.

Thanks! I was about to ask which netting you used too. This year I'm going to stick with my current set up and hopefully the underbrush will be enough to deter hawks and keep the chickens safe but if not I may try something similar.

@Merrymouse good question about Premier1 going on sale. I haven’t seen it go on sale yet but I haven’t been looking either. I paid full price. 😬 In retrospect I almost wish I would have gone the deer fencing route. I just needed something fast and easy so I gave this a try despite the steep price tag. I’d like to build a permanent run there this summer.

Here is my coops run and behind it where I want to put the fence. It’s rocky and full of trees. Don’t mind the mess back there. I gotta get back there when the weather is better. Pretty warm here for MA 39• that’s T shirt weather. But it’s rainy and foggy and muddy. Notice the plastic all around the base of my run. I guess you don’t need that in GA. Jealous 😊

A side note on this detour conversation, lol...I really want some of your boulders. LOL! We don't have any rocks where I am right now! It's flat and boring. I need some big rocks.

Here's my run. It's kind of hard to see the fencing.
