Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

Pics
I thought I would share something I found interesting with my hatching eggs. This will be a somewhat nerdy post...
When I candled the Salmon Faverolle eggs I wasn't able to see any development in these two eggs so I put question marks on them to check another day. Well I grabbed just those two today and checked again, one was still clear and the other had a little black dot floating in it that wasn't there before. It's possible that I just missed the meat spot, but I candle my eggs before I set them in the incubator, and I candled for viability on day 3 (they're on day 5 now). So I broke the eggs to see what was inside out of curiosity. One was definitely infertile, I can't even see a blastodisc that could have been fertilized so I'm thinking maybe it was an immature hen. Well, there's a clearly fertilized blastoderm on the egg with the meat spot but no signs of even starting development. Isn't that odd??? So A) a meat spot that I couldn't see in the early days of candling but was clearly visible on day 5, and B) a fertilized blastoderm that never developed. Is it because of the meat spot? Has anyone successfully hatched an egg that they saw a definite meat spot in?
I'm sorry it's so hard to photograph what I'm able to see in person...

Air cell is pretty spot on in this photo. Better than my day 17 egg’s air cells. What does your humidity normally sit at?
Well I only have a brinsea mini advance. It does not tell you the humidity and I dont have one of those things for humidity. You fill half the port with water during incubation then fill the entire port during lockdown. The first time I hatched was last year. It only holds 7 eggs so I set 7 and one had an early death but the other 6 hatched just fine.

I've been admitted to the hospital so all of you better be sharing cute chick pics with me. My Dr said I needed to come in because my oxygen was 81% and I couldn't breathe. My chest was killing me.
oh no, do you have pneumonia?

EDIT: now that I read all the posts I see that you do indeed have pneumonia. Thank goodness you're in the hospital getting the help you need. Pneumonia is no joke. Rest and heal:hugs

I always get confused about the days of incubation. I set my eggs Saturday 1/18 at about 3:00-4:00 so day 21 should be this coming Saturday 2/8 correct? So now the big question is when should I lock down my silkie eggs? My last hatch of LF I set them on a Sunday and they hatched a day early on a Saturday 3 weeks later but I locked down on late in the day 17 and they hatched on day 20. I read somewhere that sometimes silkies hatch early and Im on day 16 today. Should I lock down tomorrow night? The reason I locked down a little early last year is becuase two days a week (tues and thurs) I work super long shifts leaving my house around 6:00 am and not getting home until about 8 pm. and last year the timing was either lock down the middle of day 17 or not until very late on day 18 so I chose to lock down a little early and it was the right choice because my chicks hatched on day 20. So same incubator this year, but bantams, should I lock down tomorrow night? Sorry this was a bit confusing..

You can put them on lockdown a day early, it won't hurt anything. I have hatched Silkies before (and I'm currently incubating them now) I will base my decision on whether to lockdown early on how the air cell looks but if you're still getting familiar with how the air cell develops through incubation then there's no harm in giving them an extra day. I look forward to your hatch updates!

Ok so Ill plan to lock down tomorrow night. The other issue is I have to travel to NY early Sat morning until Sunday Mid day for a dog show. Of course Sat is day 21. So unfortunately if anything goes wrong I will not be here to do anything about it. My kids and hubby will be here and I may be able to give them advice over the phone but... Im hoping if they hatch on Sat they will be fine to just stay in the incubator until I return on Sunday. Thoughts? Now I hope they dont hatch on Friday. If they do hatch say late on Friday will they be ok in the incubator until Sunday morning or should I move them to brooder early Sat morning before I leave for NY...:he Such bad timing on my part. I was so excited to get my eggs in the bator that I didn't look ahead and realize I had a huge dog show this weekend, Im so dumb!
