Have a blanket ready and cover them if it does go out, it will help them to retain the temps longer. I was even prepared with a couple jugs of water that I was going to heat up if it started to look bad and I would put them under the blanket with the incubators to keep them warm longer. I have seen people that even filled their incubators with rocks because they retain heat longer, lol.

Haha if I had space for rocks I’d probably try it 😂 I do have some blankets at the ready it’s just I’m worried about it going off during the night as we won’t know until morning when we wake up

Oooh, I can understand that. My incubators turn on as long as there is power going to them so hopefully yours is the same and even if the power goes out it will start heating again as soon as the power is back on and won't require you to push any buttons to reheat.

Ah you are lucky! That’s the only downside to my incubator...you’ve got to hold the OK button down for 5 seconds to get it to start :hit

Just going to keep my fingers crossed that it doesn’t come to that!

Here is a couple pictures of my pipped wrong end silkie. One from 6:00 am then one from right now approximately 6:00pm. Not much progress for 12 hours. Also of note I noticed a very slight pip (not all the way through the shell but like a tiny raised area) last night at 8:00pm. So 22 hours since the slight pip and about 14 hours since the shell was actually broken through. Doesn’t seem like enough progress. Should I be concerned. It’s still moving a little and I can hear it chirping now. This afternoon it was hours between seeing any move/chirp but I wasn’t watching it every second. On another not my good air cell egg is doing nothing. Haven’t heard a chirp or a pip or any movement at all since 2 days ago. Hope that one is still alive🙏. From looking at the pictures should I be worried yet or be patient.

Well, it's good news/bad news here. I locked down my few polish eggs and heard a peep & some scratching. Then, I went to check on the 16 quail brabanconne chicks I received wednesday and two were dead under the brooder plate. I don't have any idea why, and every other one looks healthy. :hit

Oh no, I'm so sorry about your two little ones. :hugs

Glad to hear the rest are looking good, hopefully they don't have any problems! I hope your polish hatch goes smoothly as well! :fl

It can take up to 24 hours from internal to external pip and another 24 hours from external to zip. Since your baby had no air cell to pip into its external pip is the same as an internal pip would be in a normal egg so it could take as long as 48 hours to start zipping from the time it first pipped. I wouldn't be worried at all at this point, it seems like it's doing what it's supposed to so far. :)

I'm definitely with @LynnaePB on this one, waiting is better. As long the chick is getting oxygen you have plenty of time to wait before worrying. I always try to remind anyone who is new to hatching that they were perfectly safe in the eggs for 21 days and a little bit more time will be ok.
