So we've been on the go quite a bit with the new business. And it's been scorching temps out here. There's even days I forget to gather the chicken eggs.

Is there a certain temp you can't use chicken eggs? Especially when they're cracked? I mean when outside gets HOT! Lol.

I'm not sure what you are referring to. Do you mean it's too hot for the hens to lay eggs? Or do you want to know if leaving eggs in the nest until the next day in high heat will ruin the egg? It's gotten very hot here, today was 105 degrees and tomorrow the weather dude says will be hotter! If the chickens are kept as cool as possible, have water, shade etc, they should still lay. Eggs that are not pecked through or cracked should be ok for a day in the heat if in a coop out of the direct sun. I would gather the eggs daily whenever possible and refrigerate them. If you are going to be away perhaps a neighbor or a friend can come collect your eggs for you daily. My chickens are getting big ice chunks in their water, frozen cabbage and a big fan in the coop. They are hot, but are doing fine. Good luck with your chickens.

Perhaps I should of been more detailed. I'm sorry i've been busy and straining myself a little. So I'm a wee bit tired.
Yes, that's what I mean, Peppercorngal. Can you leave eggs in high heat for long or what's the temperature they will spoil?
No! My chickens are good! haha. Frozen water? I'll do that too. Thanks for the tip!

I am using my larger loaf pans to freeze water in and then put one in the chicken's water. It helps to keep the water cool for a few hours. I do this twice a day.

I'm in the desert, temps over 110 for days. I do collect every day, at the end of each day when I count my chickens and lock the coop. They sit in a basket on the wall near my back door, unwashed, until I use them.

Your chickens would probably enjoy some mud puddles and/or wading pools in the heat. My girls love them. I add a few ice cubes throughout the day to keep the wading pools cool.

They could...if fertile they could start to develop.
How hot is it in the nest?
Stick a thermometer in there to see.

This is my new go to for cooling the chooks,
along with a weekly dose of electrolytes,
a BIG(9x14x2) chunk of ice lasts all day...they wade and/or sit and/or sip.

Brilliant! Aart, but I'm hoping they're still selling sleds like that. I'd love to do that. I'll see what temp their pens get today.

I saw these earlier on FB I thought it was pretty brilliant too.
