Too low price for 3 hens?

I paid 16.00 for a close to POL pullet, and 12.00 for younger pullets. the cheapest I paid for a pullet was $8 each for the buff orp x's, at 9 weeks old.

saw some Australorps at a swap who were POL, were selling at $30 each, and another fella was selling his sussex at $20 each.

For a laying hen we would not take less than 35.00.
We live in a rural area and those who have laying hens usually loose them to predators, loose interest in raising or them just plain lazy and let them wander off.
But will buy our eggs!!! Have some standing orders for point of lay hens for next spring.

McCord........... around here I can sell a laying hen for no less then $15 -20 each, and sell every one. I just don't have enough and have people call all the time. Craigs people, unless you give the price, will always want it cheaper if they can get it, who wouldn't. Post your price, and if they don't sell quick enough knock a few dollars off until they do. Around here laying hens are worth it, if you have decent birds. Now, if only people loved Roos with out BBQ around here I'd be good, hehe. Best Wishes.........

Yes those are the layed out old hens, I listed 5 month old pullets, RIR pullets, and white rock pullets at 8.00 each sold over 300 in 3 weeks time.

These lay a egg a day, the old hen will be lucky to lay 3 eggs a week, and still eat the same amount of feed......

So if nice young hens or pullets are worth at least 20 for 3, but more like over 10.00 each. These are Ohio prices, I never see laying age pullets sell for less than 6.00 each......

YES, YES ,YES, pullets will produce a egg a day for their first year, (6 month to 18 months old) After that their egg production drop ,but still eat the same amout of feed.

Reason all the big egg farms replace their hens every year.... Will a 2 yr hen still lay , yes for many years.
