too much food?

is it possible to feed your hens too much? its seems like my girls eat a lot, do they know when to stop lol just a question. I keep their feeder full all the time and feed them veggies etc.

If they don't have access to grit, which is used to grind up food in their gizzard, they may not be getting all the nutrition out of what they eat. As a result, they eat more than they should trying to make up for the loss. Since chickens don't have teeth to chew their food, that happens in the gizzard with the help of gravel and stones that the hen swallowed.

For layers (not meat birds) I let them eat whatever they want. I always have food available during the day (not at night).
