Topic of the Week - Chicken Myths, True or False?

Pics
Kids at my school swear that I draw on my birds. That stoped when they each got a feather (she is molting, I did not pluck my girl).

Do not your birds berries because they will turn the color of the berry. This only effects the pop really… but I did turn a ginnie pig pink-ish because of strawberries.

One that I’ve heard- chickens will grow based on their how large their living space is.
So if you have your chicks in a small container expect tiny chicks!🤷🏽‍♀️🤣
That is for some fish breeds. Lol let’s just put my 30 chicks in a tiny house and they will stay small forever. 🤣🤣🤣

I've got a humorous one!!! :frow
I bought a set of bantams from a TSC store this past spring and the young gentleman "educating me" on my chick purchase and care that was to come stated that "you do realize you will not get any eggs....these are bantams....they don't lay eggs". I managed to remain calm but my husband had to walk away. I did, politely and with a smile, "educate" him back. Although often small...yes....bantam hens do lay eggs.
Bantams come out of surprise eggs :jumpy They do not lay 🥚
How about a new myth? Chickens are only motivated by food, that's why they like you. NOT.

I have plenty of hens who show affection, who want nothing more than to be held and cuddled and to be with us. They know we have no food. In fact, we can put food down in front of some of them and they'll turn away to beg to be picked up and held. They are just not as dumb as people seem to think. They are complex, dignified and, even at times, selfless to dying comrades.
He is our four and a half years old leghorn rooster. He lives with my mom. I see him once a week or so. Every time I visit he runs like crazy to me and begs to be picked up and cuddled. Jumps on my lap whenever possible. I never give him treats but he doesn't give up. I just took care of him for a month or so as a chick. Maybe he was attached to me then because he was our only chick at the time. I'd like to share a short video if possible...

Not sure if someone’s said this already.

My hens don’t lay because I don’t have a rooster!! (Not true.) Hens will naturally lay eggs, a rooster doesn’t cause it, a rooster doesn’t have to be present for this to happen, but if you want fertilized eggs you do need a rooster.
