Topic of the Week - What do/can you do with unwanted roosters?

On average 50% of all eggs hatched produce male chicks and many of us either cannot or prefer not to keep cockerels in our flocks. Which brings us to the question of this thread's topic: what can/do you do with those unwanted roosters?

yes, they are called wattles btw. If they were roosters at that age they would be wayyyyyyy more red and larger, same with the comb

I couldn't and wouldn't kill and eat a animal who I have raised and looked after..
I would have to keep him.
And not have any eggs hatched if I didn't want boys..Rather buy some new pullets if thats what I needed..

I did give my rooster away to an Animal Rescue farm, base on their facebook, they are in large property and rescue many unwanted animals of all kind. From the photos the place is big and green so I rehome him there so that he can live out his natural life free to crow and be with nature.
A month on, for some unknown reasons, I felt tortured by this and took him back. When I got him inside my car, he completely smelted down, eyes closed, body flat out, he was very sick. I took him to the vet the next day because whatever he was having was beyond my know how to treat him. The VET say he is most likely be having Mycoplasma, he was treated and recovered. It has been 4 months since and now I had to put in him permanent sleep.

If he can not live out his natural life, then a quick and painless dead is best. I afraid to give him away as he might not be cared for again.
