Topic of the Week - When eggs go wrong

I have a hen who in the last 3 days, has laid two eggs, both off the roost in thr evening. I go out to scoop poop in the morning, and right in her sleep spot, there is a pile of poop on the ground with a slightly cracked egg. No one touches it.

Is it just too dark for her to get down and find a nest?

I haven't had anything too crazy, but my Silver Wyandotte and my Golden Wyandotte both have the habit of laying some speckled eggs from time to time.

I've also had my fair share of double yolkers, mostly from my White Leghorn and my Easter Egger:

And my Leghorn laid this whopper recently. I haven't cracked it open yet but I'm going to go ahead and place my money on another double yolker. Both eggs were laid by the same hen a day apart.

When you crack it can you update with a pic? I’m curious as to what is inside.

Lots of interesting eggs

The smallest fairy egg i have ever gotten was this past week.

My Crested cream legbar has was laying two double yolkers a week for a couple of months, we are down to 2-3 a month now.

I am not sure who is laying the brown suppository looking egg, i get one every few weeks. The short fat blue egg is from my Hoover easter egger, eho is nearly 2.she has laid same all along... then i have my olive egger lays a double yolker about once a month, her regular eggs are large,so those are monsters..

I have had fairy eggs but. It has to be a small bantam fairy egg

This is kinda weird. Is this a young pullet who has to figure out that laying is normally done during the day in a nest box?

I just found what I’m pretty sure was just yolk on the floor of the coop. Not held together in an egg shape at all…. Just runny yellow absorbed into pine shavings. I have numerous chickens that are just starting to lay. I know strange things can happen when they first start but of all my reading I’ve never seen/heard of this.

Thumbtack, my oldest hen, who is mostly company anyway, will put out one very torpedo-shaped egg every couple of weeks.

Honk-mione, one of our Black Australorp pullets is struggling to regulate and is alternating normal eggs with double hollers.
