Thank you so much ! I will look for it. Should i clean his wound twice a day and aply this? Or would once daily be enough? And should i still use the wound kote or just this?Yup. That’s it.
Ok thank you! I will follow that. And yes i know about the maggots. She is inside the house in her bin with water and foodWhen something like this happens, our hearts flutter and sink.
So far, you have done great.
Newsprint is the Brand name of Triple Antibiotic. So, you did get the correct ointment. You NEVER want to put any ointment or spray with a numbing/pain agent in it. Although Lidocaine is therapeutic for humans, its TOXIC to Chickens.
Rinse the wound x1 daily is enough. Apply a liberal amount of Oint to the wound.
Bring her inside until it is healed. Reason, you do not want any flys or nats on the wound. The fly lays Maggot eggs.
Ok thank you. I do have electrolite thing i bought today. I will trim the feathers tomorrowTonight, feed her scrambled eggs and keep her hydrated.
If you do not have Hydro-Hen or Save-a-Chick, look up an Electrolyte solution on line. Me, after my 8 week olds grave injury I woke every two hours to make her drink.
Allow her to rest quietly tonight.
Tomorrow, trim the feathers away from the worst part of the wound. Rinse and gently pat the area dry. Apply a liberal amount of Oint. No bandage covering.
Perfect ! Thank you for the advice !As a RN that loves wounds, we do not rinse a wound more than x1 daily unless we are debriding it. We allow the natural body flora to remain and assist with healing. The dog has bacteria on it's teeth, but the Triple Antibiotic will take care of that.
But, if you want to rinse it x2 daily, it won't cause any harm, it's really not needed.
