Toulouse Geese Thread

My geese let everybody know THEY are the top of the pecking order in the flock just by their very goose-ness. The only bird which argues this is my MW Tom turkey, Sarge. There have been some pretty spectacular fights between Caleb and Sarge, at high speed running, Caleb's bill firmly clamped on Sarge's wing shoulder feathers. I have had to separate them a couple of times a week. Caleb is "in charge" of three female geese; Sarge cannot resist displaying around either Caleb or Angus, the other Toulouse gander.

But the chickens, hens and roosters alike, give sway to any of the geese, without loss of status within the flock.

Them Geese are just So Full Of Themselves! By right, of course.

What a handsome boy!

My chickens pick on Trina my toulouse. They steal her food when she is outside! She is not used to them though. She used to chase them around but I think my little serama rooster might have scared her.

Thank you... we think he's quite the cutie. I was thinking things would be different if I had a rooster... right now it's 10 hens vs. 2 Toulouse+their 9 pet ducks. My poor hens' tail feathers are pretty ragged (only the araucanas get away unscathed... they're the queens of the coop!).

Oh I know aren't they?? But I also have to admit that they certainly have the right to be so proud of themselves. I just adore how much personality my two have... from the moment we got them at 6 weeks they had such great little "attitudes"!

My other question was about "runts" in reference to goslings... is it normal to have a significantly smaller gosling in a hatching? When we went to pick out Jeremy and Louisa, Louisa was HUGE and Jeremy was literally half her size (or less!) The picture doesn't show the difference perfectly but gives you some idea. He wasn't just smaller but looked less "developed"... like he was weeks younger. But the lady we bought them from said they were hatched out at the same time. We adored him at first sight. The funny thing is he eventually grew to be the bigger goose... you just never know! Anyways, has anyone seen "runt goslings" happen before?

Sometimes when you see a gosling slow to grow there is something wrong with them but thankfully it wasn't the case with yours. What cuties.

Trina and I went out this morning to feed the chickens and she went straight for her big tub of fresh water. Soon one of the young roosters chased her out of her bath, poor girl.
But now she is doing something I've never seen her do before, she's standing in the driveway making this weird barking noise. I usually let her stay out for the morning so she can play in the water and preen and eat her breakfast. But she's not eating or bathing or preening, just standing in the driveway barking! Does anyone know what this is? She seems fine otherwise, she tripped getting out the door but she wasn't hurt or anything. It's really funny looking, I'm trying to get a video of it

My girl won Champion Heavy Goose at our 2013 Canadian National show, and took Reserve Goose.

That is her yes She was all tensed up at the show. I bet she would have done better if not under so much stress. She brought her keel right up. It was odd!


Here she is at the show. The picture was taken only TWO days after!

I entered the male just to keep her company. I knew he wasn't even close to her quality. She was very upset when they separated them to put her in the champion row. Poor guy was sooo happy to be reunited with his woman in the car.


Here he is beside her on the right. He has very little keel right now, but IS a year younger... Hopefully still more filling out to do.. also had angel wing as a gosling and his wing is fused where Jamie had tried to correct it. No angel wing now, but when he stretches his wing it looks fused.
