Toulouse Geese Thread

I think it is definitely grey which means this one is half dewlap. I was pretty sure I marked all the pom eggs as they came from a friend and the ine she came from had no mark. How exciting..this means my big dewlap gander is getting it right sometimes! I inly had 2 in the incubator but mama has a huge nest so I hope to get some out there so I can foster dixie in.

Now, I know that toulouse dont fly very well (or so ive been told) but when do they start flying? Mine are 1month and 1 week old and they hop up and down and they spread their huge wings and flap. Also when will they start mating? and if i have two ganders can i keep them together or should i rehome him? Thanks for the feedback!

I have 2 gander 2 females so far they have gone through almost 1 whole breeding season with out problems.

At 1 month 1 week I don't think you need to worry about them flying usually once they get completely feathered and get those flight wings you may see low flying or play practice is what I call it. I clip one wing on each of my geese [except my Embden gander he is too heavy to fly and I don't think he'd leave his family anyway]. after molt because we have a fast flowing river down below us and I really don't want to lose them.

jtn who has Toulouse says his fly over fencing so it is up to individual goose owner as to clip or not.Mating may start late fall into late winter and usually last till end of May.
