Toulouse Geese Thread

Hi Miss Lydia, That's interesting about the brewers yeast. What about niacin tablets in their water? Also, a bit off topic, my 15 day old dewlap Toulouse are eating the large size pine chips. There's plenty of food and water and their bedding gets change completely ever evening before I go to bed. Will the pine chips hurt them? How do I stop them from eating the pine chips? My goodness they are 3xs the size as when they arrived 5/6/15. They grow so fast!!!! I'm waiting for the wood that I bought, to dry out, so I can start on their coop.

Can you cover it for now with towels just to make sure they aren't eating too much of it. Try putting other things for them to chew on in their brooder like a head of romaine they have to keep busy that maybe one reason the are eating them. and yes niacin is fine to use as long as you can find plain which is getting harder to find. going on 3 weeks needs about 100-150mgs daily till 10 weeks old.

We need to see some pics of these gosling before they are full size. lol

I found the Niacin 100mg on Ebay. David Holderread had suggested 100mg. That could be 'cause I feed Purina Flock Raiser for gosling, duckling and chicks. That too contains a Niacin supplement. I'll try putting a towel over it. I do have that rubber basket weave closet liner. I had that in their water, but I saw them chewing on it and saw a long string of the fabric that one of them was trying to consume. Many years ago, I had a duck die and I didn't know why. Another duck was dying, so I took it into the house and fed it with an eye dropper that contained water and cod liver oil. It took a couple of days of every hour on the hour with a dropper, but it work. Came to find out the ducks were ingesting shreds of the blue tarps. That was the culprit!. You ask for pictures, here you go. First 2 pix are 5 day old. The rest are 15 day old.

They sure are pretty, I caught my goose eating some sting off a tarp I had put up to keep the winter wind off of them I had to take it down I ended up pulling the string out of her she had already begun to swallow it .

In the Book of Geese by Dave H. I only found reference to Brewers yeast at 2-3cups BY to 10lbs of feed. Didn't see anything on how much niacin to give until I went to the Raising Ducks book there is says 100-150 mgs till 10 weeks of age.
When my gosling were young I was using Flock Raiser too. I used Brewers yeast instead of Niacin.

It's a good thing you caught it, or you'd been wondering why it died. I would just tape (gorilla or duck) that whole seam. My Guineas would pick apart a seam on the roof of their coop and boy what a mess. I just put new truckers tarps on their coop and don't you think the wind picked up to gust of 32mph. It looked like a comedy seen!! It's tough working alone. These geese are getting so big, I don't think they will be able to stay in that trough much longer. I don't think I'll be able to wait for the wood to dry out and then stain.
