What a sweet story, sounds like Maxiegoose has found his true love. Look forward to pics when Maddie is sporting her new feathers. I'm sure Maddie will teach him a thing or two being an older more mature gooseSo about a year and a half ago we had a predator issue that ate all of my egg birds ( We hadn't started on silkies yet). Since it was late spring season not a lot of places had birds. This meant we had to go to a feed store kinda out in the rural area to find chicks.
In process my daughter spotted the silkies (hence how we have the poodle of the chicken world) along with our sexlink. While chatting up with the feed store clerk we asked how to handle predator problems (neighborhood cats were grabbing our birds along with raccoons and leaving only feathers behind). Her suggestion since we lived in the city? Get a goose...
Here is Maxigoose Auriligoose; protector of the flock.
As a baby:
Since he grew up with the chickens as the only goose he adopted them as his flock. Now if anyone messes with his chickens he is all about getting you. When not protecting his flock he is generally a really nice and docile bird.
When mating season rolled around this year I did take pity on him (after several hours of laughing as he tried to make love to a mop bucket- poor confused guy. Alas the mop bucket was to agile for him and kept rolling away from his ardent attempts.
He now has a 2 year old goose (he likes the older ladies) to hang out with. Maddie is lovely but she started molting the moment we brought her home- so no pictures yet in respect for her looking a bit hung over.
He sure is a handsome fellow too. I am sure he will appreciate his new companion regardless of her molty looks. Nothing like an older woman to help a young man learn the ways of the world.

We won't go down that road.....Are you speaking from experience jtn?![]()
I'd love to see them.I will have to get some pictures of Maddie with Max. It was just love on first site with those two. Maddie came from a home with three geese and one gander and she was the very junior goose.
This morning Max was annoyed since I was putting our birds in their outdoor run (which means scooping them out of their night time accommodations and into the open air pen). Normally Max is really sweet but he came up today and just bit me right on the tush. I turned and glared at him- since it didn't really hurt and his response was that high squeaky scream with the fanning of his currently chicken wings.
He loves his chickens and is teaching Maddie to do the same. While she isn't in love with the chickens she doesn't harass them either. He also talks a good game pretending to be all sorts of scary (he actually tried to take on a coyote... thankfully it was scared of the crazy goose and ran off) but once we pick him up he starts to snuggle and just give his happy little honks.
What I am really thankful for was that my husband didn't know house geese were a thing when we got him or Max would be living inside. He absolutely adores that big dude.
How about the Yellow Brick one then?We won't go down that road.....
