Tilly, Rosa & Winston all love the snow.
as long as they have some place to walk, they are outside. The snow is pretty deep and packed, so they can only walk where I made paths.

Water + Winston on look out = happy girls.
What a good boy, such a sweet pic. It's going to be spring here thru the weekend.. I know it won't last and the warmth comes with rain but we'll take it for now.

I have purchased 1 geese with my new flock of ducklings do you think this is a bad thing?
Yes, I dont care what anyone says a single goose is a confused and lonely goose. They really do need another of their kind to be with. They are NOT ducks, they dont forage like ducks, they graze on grass all day. Raised with ducks they will be confused and not truly act like geese.

Miss Lydia knows just that. Her gander Sammy thought he was a duck for many years. He's just learning how to be a goose again. Also, he was mating his duck mother if I remember correctly. If she was smaller than she is (which is a muscovy I believe) and he was bigger than he is, that could really cause some damage.

I can't imagine not having two at once. My two always liked the other species of birds I kept, but their bond to one another is something you can't create with another species. Ducks don't bond as closely as geese do. My ducks can wander away from one another and not be erratic looking for each other. My geese are terrified when separated. They honk loudly until reunited.

Same here. Spring weather all around!

It's going to be 32F today. Can't complain!
They're predicting 70 this Sunday. Here, winter means rain. and mud.

How do you people with real Winters manage filling up water buckets when weather is below freezing?

I use rubber tubs. The ice just pops out. They are using it so much there is always a little hole at the end of the day where they can still get at it, but there is heated buckets.. but I'm afraid the chickens would drown in it.

Hi,

My husband has the chickens in our household (I have the geese), and he just got a heated dog bowl that is about 5-6 inches high and uses that for the chicken's water. It doesn't freeze up at all, and they don't have any issues using it. The geese have a heated bucket.

You should have bought 2 geese instead of one they need each other. Ducks will hang with each other. But a goose needs another goose friend...
You are new at this and should have learned a bit more before you jumped into purchasing just one goose.
Geese have a whole different way of eating than ducks. Geese eat mainly grass, not bugs, worms snails. They are veggie eaters. They do like fruit as well. I feed quite a few different things to them. I think their favorite is Red grapes. They come running tor some for those. They get apples, some cooked corn not much. They like watermelon, tomatoes, lettuces and much much more.
