Toulouse Geese Thread

Here is a veiw of our pens that Celtic was talking about.... bird netting on top as our biggest threat is dogs. We will be putting different tops on this year to help with sun/snow issues. Recomend 1/2 x 1/2 hardware cloth or 1 in chicken wire for the bottom to keep coon and other small preditors out.

These are our favorite houses. There is room for their food to stay dry in a front corner. Even with our weird weather here in Missouri the bedding away from the door stays dry.

IF you have 2 \ganders you might see breeding season fighting. It can get pretty rough so be prepared to provide some separated housing just incase they try and go WWE on you. Otherwise 1 gander and 2 geese and or 1 gander 1 goose are fine together. If you do end up with 2 boys finding another girl this year will help make for happy couples and keep your property mowed even more.
This morning there were 3 eggs in the nest! So at minimum I have 2 girls, possibly 3? If I get one boy is that enough for 3 girls? I was really hoping for babies but think I should probably assume I have 3 girls and remove the eggs. :(

geese lay every other day. If you inspect the eggs you will see differences in them and start to ID which are alike after getting a couple. At minimum you have two girls (if you didnt take the first egg) 1 gander to 2 geese is best, yes you can have a quad but sometimes fertility is less with that set up.

I would take all three eggs, or mark them to know which are the oldest. Then count the new eggs laid. If you get one tomorrow and two the next day it is likely three girls no ganders. Congrats on the new eggs

Yesterday morning there was a nest, no eggs. This morning 3 eggs. If they lay every other day it seems I have 3 girls.

I'm excited to have the eggs but was hoping for a boy in the mix. So are 3 girls "ok" together without mates or should I plan on getting boys? Thank you so much for your help!

OleMiss, I'm having fun trying to figure out your goose gender mystery. If you do have 3 girls, they're fine - you just wont get any babies. I'm not experienced with the Toulouse breed at all, but with my geese, there is a difference in how male/ females carry themselves. Have you noticed any differences?

They have slight differences in markings but otherwise look mostly the same. One has a black dot on the tip of her beak and the other two don't. Their little 'fat pouches" between their legs are different...one has one lump another has two lumps. haha! And they all have big mouths but I like the honking. :)

So here is my cottonpatch name is Dollface and my Toulouse, GG. They were about 4 months then. Today my Toulouse laid her first egg I am a very proud papa. She was born May 9th 2012 so now almost 9mo and her first egg. I will have to get newer pics here cause she sure looks different now, fatter fluffier and with the sweetest disposition ever. Is not what I call imprinted but will watch me carefully in the yard and will follow me around a bit too. If im out in the yard, she is there to make sure she sees whats going on. LOL, I love her and her name is Gorgeous-Girl (GG for short), and of course because she is french. LOL I will try to get updated pics soon.
