Toulouse Geese Thread

Hi everyone,
I have some questions - my geese keep neck wrestling & take turns jumping on top of each other; Gertie seems to be more successful jumping on top of Stanley than he on her - is this normal??

She is a year old but there are no eggs at all; is that normal? I have laid out at least 3 enticing places where they could start a nest if they wanted to.
I know I have a lot to learn and really appreciate any info you can give me - thanks!

Are you absolutely positive you have a goose and a gander? and I love that pool where did you get it?

well... you MIGHT have 2 ganders - which is totally okay (just no eggs). My experience with geese is limited to the pair I got in April, but I'm thinking that you have two males because I have never seen my female goose try to mount the gander.

I was going to ask if you heard a difference in the sounds they make (males are higher pitched than females) but I notice that you have 1 toulouse & 1 american buff (at least thats it looks like, unless its a buff toulouse?) and I dont know if the breeds sound different. (A toulouse I heard sounded much different than my chinese)

Dont give up on not having a female yet... geese lay in the spring, and it might be too cold for her to lay. If temps warm up & still no eggs, than you know you have 2 males.

I agree with Miss Lydia, that's a nice pool!

Good Monday morning. Hope everyone is staying warm. Burr it's cold here in Newnan.
I'm looking for a little preparatory advice. I have goslings on order. Day olds. I've raised day old chicks but never goslings. Is the raising of them pretty much the same as the chicks? Any advice is appreciated.

I agree. I think you might have two boys there. Not the end of the world. Just a good reason to get a couple females.
haha! thanks everyone - the people I got them from SWORE they were a male and a female. How do you sex a goose? (Very carefully I hear someone cry

) And yes I think Stanley is an American Buff- he certainly behaves like a male. And Gertie follows him around everywhere and they seem to be bonding pretty well. He is much more likely to honk, Gertie tends to amble along quietly.
I think I will have to email the former owners again and see what they say. And thank you, I love this pool. Got it off of UsedVictoria. Score! I was so happy - they dived in like it was spa day and spent a half hour ducking and diving and washing themselves. They couldn't wait for me to fill it up, as you can see from the photos LOL!

They are both lovely, My gander which is Embden is very loud, my goose Toulouse not so much, she does make noise but not like my gander, plus my gander stands tall head up where my goose just kinda mosies along at normal goose body style. if that helps at all.

Based on the pictures and your description, you could have a male/female pair. I have seen my juvenile girls mount boys in the beginning when trying to figure it out, but I've also seen my juvenile ganders act that way with each other. Either way, they are adorable!! IF the buff is male and the grey is female, they should have color sexed babies, too.

I hope so! Thank you, they are funny to watch.... Yes I did hear that any babies would be sex linked. That would be fantastic, if they actually do produce any eggs.
