Toulouse Geese Thread

Awesome! Gerdie never did start back up, but the ducks can't get to her now and she'll be at my house as soon as the snow melts and I can get their house built. Combine that with the POSSIBILITY that spring is here

, and I'm hoping she'll start again soon!

Well Missy had laid #31 back on April 1st and hasn't laid since till today so we are at #32, much smaller than the others but most diff hers. I take it this is normal behavior she laid 31 and took a break and now starting back again.?

I just read this morning that Toulouse will sometimes take a break, so I'm hoping that once it warms up a bit more, she'll start again. Our crazy winter is taking a toll on everyone, I think!
I bet your winter is rough and last week we were at 32 with snow and sleet, today it's 80* crazy..

It has been getting into the high 30s the last few weeks, but we've also gotten over 2 feet of snow in the last 10 days! I just want the snow to hurry up and melt so I can build the new goose run!

We just received our goslings on Friday. Had to order 8 but only want to keep a male and a female. I watched the sexing video and believe I've ID'd 2 males but they were already 5 days old and it was difficult. What else would you look for as they grow to identify the sex? These were purchased primarily as pets but what do you look for in a gosling that would make one better than another?

you have to grow all geese out and judge them in the fall after they were hatched to select for best traits. Some breeds need to grow 2-3 years before you see them attheir best. If they are production toulouse then you can really pick two to keep and be happy as they really dont have much variance from one to another, and production birds are meant for meat/utility use. You would be concerned with good legs, active grazing and clear eyes. They all appear tobe in good shape inthe pictures
