I know mine too, although if Sammy doesn't straighten up and fly right he maybe Thanksgiving dinner.

Man what is an unruly gander like? Pom has been lightly nipping Trina and I'm not sure if it's because he is trying to be boss or what?
It's usually when she starts freaking out about something - honking and squealing if she is cornered, never by him, usually by me or one of the chickens, if Pom is close he will come over and nip her back or sometimes her face. And now he does it when they get treats. Trina's fav thing is lettuce and I've been buying tons of it cause it get's Pom to come right up to be and eat out of my hand - working on getting him to trust me and associate me things other than putting him to bed lol - now when he sees me he comes over to see if I have anything and when I DO have lettuce Trina always knows because she can see the green or hears the bag rustle, she definitely knows the "lettuce bag" sound it's hilarious to watch her light up, so they both come running over and she has no problem sharing the the lettuce with him, and has no problem being RIGHT nest to him so they can both eat from me, but now instead of him being shy and not wanting to get too close to her he will nip her - face or back - so he can have the lettuce. Is this all fine and good? Or should I be doing something to stop him?
He's not vicious, it frightens her when he does this, but he is very slow and gentle, he misses most of the time but even when he DOES get her he barely touches her feathers, it's almost like it's more for show than anything

Are you sure they are a true pair? I find my males do it to the females that aren´t their mate, and the females do it to each other, but I´ve never seen a gander do it to his own goose.

I think it's fine especially if he isn't doing it aggressively, Sammy nibbles on Missy it's me he wants to be mean to. Lightly nipping here is a sign of affection, just wait till mating season starts and you see what Trina does to Pom, lol I was amazed at how aggressive Missy was to Sam biting on him etc. Try not to interfere they are working on a relationship.

That's what I hoped. He's not hurting her, so I didn't know if I should discourage it or just leave them alone. Now if only mating season would hurry up! LOL

Since you probably don't have much cold weather? you may see mating start as early as Dec. Just remember Pom will not want you messing around them much when it starts. so don't get your feeling hurt if you notice a change in behavior.

I've heard our mating season can start as early as oct! Strange desert weather lol

Well then you may start seeing signs of "Love is in the Air" pretty soon. or in the pool. LOL

Do they need a large pool? All I have is a tub, it's just big enough for one. DH wants to get a kiddy pool but this one is deeper and rubber so it won't crack or rust, but I could probably find the same tub in a larger size.

Mine go out in the snow, and I use heated buckets too, as for bathing they get a cement mixing tub to wash in when the temps go above freezing, that way at end of day I can dump it instead of having frozen pool water to mess with.

Thank you. I'm curious if they will go out in the snow on their own, or will I need to shovel a path for them? We'll shovel a path for us to the front door, but I rather the birds not hang out there.

Mine go out in the snow but do lay on their feet and legs a lot. I have put shaving down where they walk when the snow seems to hang around a while.
