Toulouse Geese Thread

Hello; My geese (Toulouse and Seba breed) have been laying on their eggs for about 25 days or so and I noticed one egg had turned almost a blueish color? Any idea what that might be indicating? Thanks

hi all, I just got two (week old) babies today,

i'm so excited and a bit nervous. we have chickens, ducks, gunieas and now two of the cutest baby geese I have ever seen. actually they are the first baby geese I have ever seen LOL. i believe i have a male and female. i believe this because the one i believe is a male gets right up and walks towards me with his head low and pointed as if to protect the other one. i notice also he talks to her, it's so cute he showed her where the food and water was in the brooder. i am amazed how brave he is. i would like to know if this behavior is normal for this age? i have had a bad experience with a people aggressive rooster. i never connected how he always kept his eye on me as he grew and as time went on he became more and more aggressive towards me. he considered me another rooster that had to be delt with. he never hurt me but i couldn't trust him and i really don't want this same problem with my new little guy. what can i do to insure this does not happen. some articles advise talking to him and being friendly other articles advise not to make pets of the gander at all. i am confused please any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am guessing your geese are Toulouse since you posted here. I have three and all three get along fine with me and my other birds. It is my understanding that there may be some male aggression during breeding season but that passes. I talk with mine, spend time with them while they free range, give them treats and in general treat them with respect. I would not say that they are pets in the way a dog or cat might be but they are treated with the same affection and they seem to give that back. Good luck.

yes, they are Toulouse thank you so much.

I went out to my look in on my babies first thing and they are doing great. they were sitting together in the warmth of the brooder light. when I came in they got up and came over to me they were being quite vocal peeping and chattering. I checked water and food all was fine, the brooder was nice and warm. I knew they wanted something but wasn't sure what. they were side by side looking up at me and peeping. I put my hand down into the brooder, they walked right up to it. I was so surprised at how brave they were at only a week old. I proceeded to put my hand under the belly of the little male and he lifted his legs and rested his body onto my hand. I lifted him up and put him close to me and then reached in for the little female and did the same. They seemed to calm down so I unzipped my sweatshirt and put them inside, next thing I knew they were asleep, it was at that moment that I fell in love with my babies. I never imagined that they would be so responsive to me. I hope this means we can be friends when they are older.
