Toulouse Geese Thread

Hey, blame Da Hubby for the nickname, he chose it! I live near the WI/IL border. Molly's usual mate is Gingi, who is an African goose but their kids have a pretty dominant Toulouse look. Now this year, we've got 11 gals and 8 boys so there is a bit of fooling around a bit and I've seen Molly mate with our Toulouse gander, Buddy. There is a chance that some of the goslings might be 100% Toulouse. She's got 13 eggs under her, and last year she hatched 6 out of 12...which was her first clutch. I'm expecting a better result this year as she's been a very conscientious brooder. See? She's been hissing at anyone within 10' of her for 2 1/2 weeks now.
If youre willing to part with 2 of them Id definately take them just let me know how much you want for them!!!! Id make the drive for 2 little cuties!!!

So, not knowing much about the States, do you two live fairly close to each other? And tell your hubby that your 'handle' name sounds like a russian swearing!

Does it really , I thought it was more like a sneeze.

The nickname was some sort of combination of nicknames that he's had forever. We actually met in a Yahoo Chatroom in 1996 and I thought it meant "clamshucker". Well, 15 years later we're married and I've never seen him shuck a clam.

As to the closeness of Tsumo to us..yeah, it's pretty close. I can drive to her home within an hour. So...96 kilometers or so? It's a nice drive and that area is pretty during the spring.

Tsumo: Yes, I'll let you know when Molly hatches her babies which should be around the 3rd of May. She was off the nest briefly this evening and I counted 13 eggs. Two would be a good number to take but I must admit I am not good at sexing. So far all my efforts to try at a young age have been bad. I do not honestly know how much to charge..any suggestions from y'all?

I remember paying $20 for Molly when we got her, but we were pretty specific on what we needed. She had to be a female roughly a year old without a mate. I wanted to make sure she'd take to Buddy. Little did I know Buddy wouldn't take to her. Eh. She's definitely worth the 20 bucks anyways.

Im so excited! As far as sexing goes I have no idea how to sex them. Is it like sexing chickens? If so maybe find 2 that look different? Idk lol.

I got my three when they were about 4 weeks old to match the hatch date of my ducks. I have no idea what sex they are and every time I think I spot something in behavior that distinguishes them as male or female they go and change the rules on me. So I am just enjoying them and hoping for two females and one male but will probably end up with just the opposite or all male. But, they have already endeared themselves to me so it is less and less of an issue as each day passes. You can sex them much like you do a chicken. I have not even tried since I have read that there is real chance of injury if you don't know what you are doing. Plus I just don't want to expose them to such an indignity.
