Toulouse Geese Thread

@Jtn42248@servpolice. Thank you both for the information. Yes it is bad news. Luckily they were given to me, I did not buy them. The female started sitting a couple days ago. I thought it funny there was only 1 egg every other day.

Ok. Will the eggs hatch??? Or will they not be fertile, being they are mixes??

Thanks, Linda

Well you do have 3 ganders so I'm pretty sure they're fertile.
The only problem is that the fathers might be one of her sons.
The goslings won't be deformed but will be weaker then normal.
If you don't want the sons to inter-breed I would think you should put away the sons until she starts brooding so you get strong healthier goslings.
Of course mixes can breed with eachother and produce fertile eggs.
She produced her sons didn't she ;)
No matter how mixed breed your geese are they will always produce fertile eggs.
Domestic geese mating with wild geese (Canada geese) is when the goslings will be sterile and won't be able to produce goslings.
If the goose is the mother of the two ganders then she has brooded before meaning you will definitely get goslings from her ;)

She is already sitting on a nest full. The lady I got them from had about 10-12 other geese. Evidently she was just going by the knob as to male/female. So, unsure as to who parents of mix were. The only mating I have seen were her and white Chinese.

Thanks for information. Sorry about the stupid questions. But the more I learn the better I can care for them. I will send the 2 mixes across the lane to cousins. He has a very large tank and can lock them up at night.

Btw how are things with your flock doing? It is breeding season right now so I'm not surprised if problems are accruing right now.
It is the time of year where problems are the highest

Hope all is good!
The word chaos comes to mind. We do have to put the males in a pen of their own at night. Sting has taken to hoarding all the females to himself even though they often try to sneak away to the other males. But he rounds them up and puts the smack down on the young males. We are building pen number 2 so we can try creating a second gaggle out of some of them. Sting really made a mess of the back feathers of a couple of young ganders to the point I actually though of culling him. But we have to try to find another solution before that. I do have an ad in the local paper for geese for sale but have no inquiries as yet.

It is likely that the eggs are fertile, at least some of them. If she is trying to build up a clutch (laying and burying the eggs) then she may go broody soon and sit. Otherwise after 10 to 15 days you may want to gather the eggs and dispose of them.

Ah yes I remember you talking about Sting. well atleast you sorted something out.
After breeding season everything will get back to normal especially when they start molting.
A second pen sounds pretty good!
Are your females laying eggs?

Do you want goslings? If so leave 8 in the nest and no more. Every time she lays an egg take an older one out(usually the most dirty ones).
Only 8 because geese find it hard to keep all babies warm especially as they grow.
White Chinese geese have 100% fertility rate so I'm guessing too that they're all fertile.
No such thing as a stupid question especially if they are not even stupid ;)
Re-homing the two ganders sounds like an excellent plan!
