Toulouse Geese Thread

Pics
I have no idea their genders. I didn't watch a vent sexing video until they were nearly fully feathered (about the time these pics were taken). I am not sure about trying to vent sex them at this point. I would like to know who's what gender, though! I was told to voice sex them. They all sound pretty much alike to me (as far as tone). None noticeably high pitched or anything.
I was still dealing with Angel Wings at this point. Everyone is good now. Bowe/Beau's wings are very long in comparison to his/her body. They are 2.5-3 months old now.

They run to the fence to great me and honk at me when they see me. They aren't as friendly as they used to be, but that's more than likely because I quit going out and sitting in the run with them. I am afraid of sitting on a poo bomb. They used to curl up with me and Bowe/Beau would nibble at me. I'll have to get new pics. These are a couple weeks old now.

Very pretty Ray. You can always submit feather samples for DNA gender testing. Two feathers per bird in seperate envelops. Testing runs 20-24 depending on which lab you use.

Edited to add: (edited 9/14/12) The labs no longer accept samples for geese. So back to vent sexing, or waiting till spring it is

Maybe soon. Mine will haunt me from behind. They were harassing me at bedtime tonight

She really didn't have much interaction with humans from her beginning and she has come a long way in 41/2 weeks, My gander is very good at taking treats from me even halved grapes. I'm just taking my time with Missy, she does feel more comfortable everyday just being close which makes me feel a lot better. Harassing you at bedtime? where they in your room or looking in your window again? lol

Harassing me when I tried to put them to bed. They were talking back. Who knows what kind of foul language they were uttering at me. They were not happy about bed time. They were playing in the water :gig

I bet that was cute, did your gander come about or are you still looking?

We found one from Good Shepard Poultry Ranch - and someone is picking him up in October and meeting us in Ontario - Hopefully he is good quality, because they won't be getting him if he's not.

Good Shepard is very well respected though, so I have high hopes!

This was all set up through the breeder we got the girls from. He searched everywhere for a gander for us. I love that. He is a very good man.

Lydia, I have no doubt that Missy will bond deeply with you. To me, building a trusting relationship with geese not raised by hand from hatchling can be a long road which will truly test even the most patient people. But it also teaches us that the reward from having built that trusting relationship is far sweeter than the instant gratification feeling we get from raising babies. And for what it is worth, in my opinion, hand-feeding treats to geese is over-rated.
