I have to share with ya'll how sweet it is to watch Sammy and Missy together,  because of the frigid/snowy weather this past week i opened the gate that was separating my older Muscovies from the rest of the flock so they could get a bit out of the weather, well one of those older ducks was the duck that not only hatched my gander but was also his mate for 5 yrs. Well i have to tell you he is still in love with her but he is bonded with Missy, this afternoon I went out to check on everyone and there was Sammy and Missy laying together sleeping. :love  I really feel now that although he will always look at the Scovie as his mama he is truly at one with Missy. He finally knows he's a goose. :weee I'll have to get some updated pics of the 2.
That's great Miss Lydia!

Maybe he just think's Missy is a duck! :p

He might but they do goose things together like play flying up the driveway where he never did stuff like that with the duck, she's also 8yrs old and pretty sedate [doesn't move around a whole lot] where Missy is on the go and i think Sammy likes that keeps him occupied.

Pic of Missy this morning, she loves to get up on things, this is one of her fav hang outs, the roof of the feeder house, lol she is small to me, height wise, she has filled out real nice though. she is 7 months old this month.

 I laugh because my girls could never get up on that. Go Missy! :D

She's looking beautiful Miss Lydia! Her colouring does look better than it did when you got her :)

What do these geese need for shelter or not to survive winter? What does everyone provide their geese? Mine free-range in my field with a large spring-fed pond now. No building. Is that OK for the winter?

I wouldn't leave mine out in the winter without protection, I wouldn't leave them out over night without protection form elements and predators. Even a pond won't protect them if something is hungry enough. Just how I would do it,.

Drummer, I wouldnt ever leave geese to totally fend for themselves 24/7. Any predator will gladly make a meal out of them. Somewhere secure you can lock them inside at night, and leave the door open on during the day allowing them to come in and out as wanted is best.
