Toulouse Geese Thread

I was talking to my husband about her being into everything, and commented about our gander not going through the terrible 2's before one year old and he said well he didn't know he was a goose. Which is true he was raised with a bunch of Muscovies. He has made to her toys and hung them out in the yard but Nooo she has to find other things to get into. lol I love her to pieces though and would absolutely die if something happened to her or any of my flock, which after seeing what happened to Martys babies just makes me love them and want to protect them all the more.

Marty's tragedy has us rethinking our pasture fence... but like it or not none of us can afford Fort Knox around everything..... so we are just going to continue with a small yard and houses that are as close to Fort Knox as possible for night time and when we're gone..

Aoxa - they're all looing great and I reckon Winston is about 5 weeks younger thanthe females.  You may see dramatic changes over the next 3 months.  Of the 3 I think Rosa is the pick of the bunch at this age.  Nice overall shape, good depth of body, and impressive and well shaped keel with a good head.  She's showing a whole lot of promise :fl
Thanks so much Pete :D I agree, Rosa looks best right now. She can only get better, right? :) She's the one who had angel wing, and I corrected it right away. Thank God!! :D

This afternoon i went out to do chores and saw Missy my goose running around with something hanging out of her bill, well it took me a few minutes to catch her and when i did i ended up pulling about 12 inches of blue plastic thread out of her throat. I had hung a blue tarp up at the wood shed to block the wind and give the flock another place to get out of the cold not realizing Missy would try to unravel the hem at the bottom. Thank the Lord I found her when I did  and i was able to pull it out. Needless to say the bottom of the tarp is now weighted down with fire wood so she can't get to the thread. she is like a little child getting into all sorts of stuff. I never even thought she would do this.

They are little toddlers sampling everything they can put in their mouth. I bought them santa bells, and they've already ripped that apart  Good thing you caught her!

Around here I tend to say geese are like 3 year olds and ducks are like 2 year olds.      I'm glad you got it way from her before she got injured. :hugs

X2!
x3! Definitely toddlers.

we wouldnt have the numbers we have without having the Great Pyrenees on patrol 24/7
One of these days I will have an LGD but with 4 dogs to feed now and all my others I can't afford another mouth to feed, so I'll have to be LSP[Live stock person] till then. My dogs are good at barking and I do think that keeps alot of preds away as long as the preds don't see whos doing the barking, if they did they'd probably fall over and die laughing [dachshunds]

I'm having a hard time getting my LGD to respect me. She's 10 months old and a lot of work right now. She's actually in rehab to bring her to a neutral ground and assess what needs to be done to correct this. I have someone coming to train me on Sunday

aoxa, hope they can help you and her out together. Our Pyr female was hard to take at times until the age of 2, from 2 to 3 she has grown into amazing worker. Our male however has been easy going from day one, and a pleasure to work with. We have a 7 month old pup again who is about an inch shorter than our 3 year old female. He is going to be massive when full grown. So far he is level headed, but so was our older male at the same age. We have lucked out with all three being bird safe, which isnt always the case.

So conclusion is: I should have got a male :p

I find females of canines and felines to be more stubborn and harder to train. I like my boy pets! I wanted a boy at first, but they didn't have any available.

I'm glad to hear that you had a stubborn female as well, and it turned out well in the end. That gives me hope! I know a lot of her issues are my fault. I should have researched them better, and provided her with livestock she would imprint on at a much younger age.

She is really responding well to a backpack right now. She needs some sort of job, and she struggles when she doesn't have one.
