Tractor Supply Chicks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone! I have been reading and noticed several people bought chicks and wound up with more roo's than desired. So a silly thought crossed my mind: why not learn how to sex a chick before you go to the store?
It's easy to do....
1) Pick the chick up by the scruff of its neck.
2) if the feet dangle it's a girl.
3) if the chick pulls it's feet up to its body it's a boy.

Hope this helps someone out.

You aren't allowed to touch the chicks. The only thing you can do is tell the sales person what you want and they get them out of the bin for you. You can tell them which chick you want, but they handle them.

I talked to a sales girl.......... I told her I had some concerns. 1) the tub of barred rocks was labled pullets. Barred rocks are easily sexed by the spot on their heads. There were a LOT of male chicks in the tub. 2) green laced wyandottes??????? There is no such breed!

Then she says "do you want to buy chicks? Or just pick on us?"

WHAT??????

I called the home office........ then went back inside to make sure the home office called to straighten this mess out.

Home office actually called the store to get things right. The sales clerk apologized. I accepted her apology. But I will never buy chicks at TSC again. I have been burned one too many times by buying chicks that grew up to be anything but what I paid for!

Barred Rocks actually can't be sexed by the spot on their head. The breed you are referring to for that is black star/black sex link.

This is an old wives tale.

Yes it is, that I won't deny. But hey if it works then all the better, right. Like everything in life there's room for error. But i believe it is better to try something than nothing at all. And your not harming the chick. It's just a suggestion anyway. I've had success with it myself, so as silly as it is I'm a believer.
