Tractor Supply Co. Horror Story

I’m sorry that happened to you. It’s a story I’ve heard all too often. :barnie

Tractor Supply does not care wether their employees know anything about chickens.
They’re more interested in wether they can drive a forklift.
It’s very unfortunate that some people are willing to BS customers though
I’m amazed how many people will get animals of any species and not do any of their own research.
I was reading books about chickens and lurking on BYC 2 years before I even got my own birds.
I highly encourage others to do the same! It’s very empowering to learn and teach yourself what you need to know.
It gives you the confidence that you can handle the basics.
Best of luck with your birdies!

I would have noticed if the container was labeled straight run.
Also I do not have exact dimensions of the coops and pens, but it basically looks empty with the four birds there now. I'm planning on more pullets to even out the hen to roo ratio.

They may not have been labeled, but they were straight run. They only sell silkies straight run, and I don't think I've seen sexed RIRs there either (though that may just be my store).

Don't let it be stressful anymore! Limit yourself to one roo and get some more ladies, preferably chicks that you know are pullets like sexlinks. Make sure that they all have enough space and everything will settle down. :)

Over the last 2 years I've bought my chicks at a local farm & ranch store, first batch was 4 rir, 4 black sex links, 4 amercaunas, all advertised as pullets and 6 months later that's what I got, 2nd batch from the same store was mixed straight runs, 2 roos and 4 pullets, don't much trust the big box farm and ranch stores when it comes to chicks

You could always ditch all the roosters, start a few more pullets, then add a grown and known to be nice rooster. Or get a calm breed as a chick, the older girls will teach him manners. I have an obnoxious cockerel right now who is awful to the small and mellow pullets, but my big girls just look at him and he runs. So he's only allowed with them. He's learning to woo not throw them down by the head.
