Honestly. The man on the phone could have been different than the one she encountered at the store. This was not clarified. I don't know that I would trust a store employee at tsc to give me accurate advice without knowing that they could be totally wrong. It is not likely that they have an animal husbandry degree and are working at tsc though they could. One of my first questions at tsc when asking about such things is: "Do you own chickens?" Fraud? Lol
The op also stated that the employee didn't even know the breed, just sorted them by color. If at that moment one was worried they were getting accurate info from a store employee - that would have been a good cue that they weren't and maybe that person did not know. If the op wanted to be sure of their purchases, probably should have tried a local breeder and even then it is not 100% accurate.
This is not fraud - just novice mistakes and trusting a tsc employee. Shoot, I have barely had poultry and know more than most tsc employees when it comes to the topic.
Like I said to bad the OP did not get the name(s) at lest of the one who said he could sex them as that in and of itself could have gotten the OP to buy them (who is to say other ppl have not had the same done to them?). yes I must have missed the part where the guy admitted he did not know breed (but thats not to say other ppl have not been lied to at other
TSC's about the breed by employee's). The fact that some
TSC empolyees lie (mislead) buyers when they know what they are saying is a lie but do it anyway to get someone to buy is fraud and I'm sure some do it.
you don't need to own chickens to know what your doing nor do you need a degree in animal husbandry what they do need is better training, less breeds, better product info both for the customer and the empolyee's so they know what they have and where to put the stock.
Esample my mother went to out local
TSC as she and my father were thinking of chickens and the chicks were buy 4 get 2 free as they were older and they needed to get rid of stock as told by a
TSC worker and therefore lumped into one bin so you got a lucky dip. The guy told my mother they were all females period (how are you suppose to know other wise if it's not on a sign above the things) she took a pics of the ones she liked and sent them to me only 1 out of the six was female the rest had red combs and visable wattle which is normally a tell tale sign of a roo I told her that, another guy came in who owned chickens and told my mother the same thing so they left with out buying any.
Some
TSC workers lie to move stock others lie cuz they don't know better. but yes it's fraud if a worker knows it's a lie but does it to sell. I'm sure there are people that this has happen to. But like I said "I get
TSC can't sex the chicks and relies on the supplier to do so specially if they offer only pullets (with a % warning for wrong sexing) . But
TSC needs to train the employee's to put up signs stating straight run or pullets/roosters so people can't say they were mislead. They also need to train employee's what breeds are what or at lest only have a few breeds at anyone time that do not look like each other and train them what is what and make sure they are in the right bins!"
