Tractor Supply Company Petition - Please Consider Signing

Has this proposition been run past Nifty first? I'm wondering if this is allowed on BYC. In effect it would be giving TSC free advertising - announcing new chicks in the store. Is TSC a sponsor of BYC? This would be in direct conflict with those businesses that are.

I'm sure they wouldn't go listing all their injured/sickly chickens not exactly good for business. If they posted signs in store looking for adoptees for injured chicks, it could also attract the wrong kinds of interest. I'm thinking someone who wants a meal for their snakes , rodents or what have you. I know this petition is well intentioned but I don't think it would bring about desired change.

I signed but let me tell you that it will probably not happen. The problem is the web site is run by Corp. not each individual store so notifying you that your local store has ill or injured chicks for adoption is not going to happen. They do advertise when they start selling chicks but again each store supply is delivered at different times. Running a web site is costly and time consuming. So someone would have to update the site daily or even hourly because someone may have taken the chick’s home already or they may find injured chicks through out the day. It would NEVER be up to date.

Anyway my advice to you is to check your local store, adopt what you can and tell others that are willing to adopt what you have found. You can't blame the employees, it is TSC's decision to sell chicks and most employees have no idea what they are dealing with or how to take care of chicks other than water, feeding and separating the unhealthy ones. Half the time Welp (the hatchery they get them from) don’t even tell them what they are sending them. Most employees think that “straight run” is a breed, again not their fault. So go easy on them, politely explain that you have experience with raising chickens and explain what you see and how to help. Maybe they will take your advice and know what to do the next time and then again maybe they don’t care. But at least you know you did all you could.

Again good idea but don’t count on it.

It's nice to see you care enough to try. Hope you succeed. Good luck.

This is not about free advertising, nor is it about giving TSC bad publicity or publicity at all. The whole point of the petition, again, is for TSC to directly contact, through posts here, those people who would be the most likely and best capable to adopt injured chicks that they have in their stores. TSC would not be posting signs in their stores about adopting injured chicks. They would not be posting this on Facebook. They would be contacting US here on BYC.com, again, direct contact to poultry raisers who would be best able to help those injured chicks, or to help those chicks TSC no longer wants because they are getting bigger, less cute, and hopping out of the brooders and running around the store aisles.

Yes, this petition may fail. But if we don't try, how would we ever know? Again, every movement starts with a single step. Whoever is willing to take a step of their own, please consider signing!

What your trying to get TSC to do is akin to pushing a chain up hill. Even if you did get TSC to say... That is a good idea. Do you really think every store manager is going to create a BYC account AND make such post? It will never happen!

Your efforts would better be served by generating a network here with BYC members. Get volunteers to approach their local store about being a liasion that the store manager or employees could call with such information and updates. Then the BYC member would in turn post when store XYZ has chicks arriving or they have some that need special attention.

I signed too! Sounds like a win-win for all involved, especially
the chicks.
