Tractor/trailer coop build

Mocking up the inside. What am I missing?

2 nest boxes 18ā€ to bottom of box. Will install hop bars at 12 and 16 for ease of access to nests.

1 poop board 32ā€ above ground, floor which will be 3/4plywood.

1 ramp to access roost? Don’t like it. Can they just fly up and down the 30ish inches with 30ish inches from the poop board edge to the wall?

Are you going to cover that particle board?
Might be hard to clean.

Is the roost a 1x, how long is it?

Ramps should be ~35° from horizontal, can prop the lower end ~16 from floor.
They can probably fly up, but need landing space to fly down without crashing.
This is all just mocked up. So, materials etc..are in flux inside the coop.

particle board could be used, perhaps, how do you feel about pond liner? considering using it on the floor too, too keep the moisture off the wood.

the roost, i anticipate, will be a 2 x 4, removable, and is 74" long

ramps, cool, i can lower the nests a couple inches and poop board too, to make it better.

thank you for your time

Chickens are generally thought to fly at about a 45-degree angle so they need at least as much landing distance as the roost is high. Small, light breeds have better flight capability than big, heavy breeds. My California White flies like a helicopter so 30" up and down would be nothing to her. My Light Brahma, on the other hand, has marginally better flight capability than a concrete block. She doesn't even fall with style and 30" might as well be Mt. Everest to her.

They are generally better at hopping up a set of steps than at climbing a steep ramp. :)

If you manage your litter well there will be no moisture to keep off the wood of the floor -- especially if you keep the water in the run where there is no risk of dumping it in the coop. :) If you cover the wood with something, consider how well it will resist the points of a pitchfork or the blade of a shovel.

I have no input in re: poop boards since I don't use them.

Being addicted to overengineering, I'd probably have a center support as well as end supports at that distance. :D

thank you so much, for taking the time to post up. all great information, wow. i do like the idea of steps, will mock, and will mock all to make landing easier/safer for the birds.

I have a poop board, and it keeps almost all the poop off the floor. Put a good sized lip on the edge, and 1/4-1/2" of PDZ on it. Very little smell, ever, and also very easy to scoop the poop. I spend about 5 minutes a day cleaning my coop.

tyvm, i will put a lip on the front and back, and make it like a removable tray, if possible.

Good heavy EDPM could work, I'd not use the thinner poly type pond liner.
I have heavy duty foam backed vinyl on both floor and poop boards,
has held up pretty well for 9 years now.
