Not just the coasts! I live in TN on the KY border. I like to shop at a little Amish Market where I USED to get brown free-range eggs [now my 'girls keep me and 2+ other households in eggs

] Anyhow, I asked if there were roosters with the flock .......... the grocer didn't know but the eggs came from a flock just 2 miles down the road! I went there and asked ................ Yup! roosters

Not a great ratio, about 1 roo to 50 hens so I didn't have high expectations. The young man gathered me 2 dozen fresh that day, never washed, never refrigerated, just candled for cracks. I brought them home, stuck the dozen 5 day old washed and refrigeated ones from the market in one bater [hatched 3]

Check local farmer's markets, etc and wen you find your brown eggs, ask about roosters [or look for the 'bulls eye' on the yolk before you cook them. Good Luck!

We are going to give the TJ eggs a try. We built an incubator & want to do a test run. I called our TJs & they have them. It is going to be an exciting learning experience for us!

Well we went the other night down to the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-Op and were perusing the egg section and found fertilized brown eggs. These eggs are HUGE. We came home, picked the best three, and yes, they are in our little 3-egg bator. They've been there for 3 days & we'll do our first candling tomorrow. I'll subscribe to this thread so I can post pics if any of them hatch. Wouldn't that just be a hoot if they did?

I cannot help but wonder what kind of chickens laid them. They are different shades of brown, but they are very large eggs, almost 3 ounces each. So we are hoping they'll hatch and we can find out what kind of mystery chickens they are.

I stopped by the most convenient TJ's in Concord today. They told me they have had them, but stopped selling them, they were not a great seller. They did not know if or when they would have them again, but they did call another TJ's in town and they had some in stock

I don't have an incubator, but I'm thinking I'd like to try this. Great timing too, since my son has a science fair project due next mont, so I'm thinking this would be cool.
Any advice on incubators? I get that some have turners, some don't. Is that really necessary?
