Trader Joes & Other Grocery Store Egg Hatching Club - Are you a Member

I set 18 eggs I purchased from Natural Grocer 6 days ago. They did not say fertile on the box they were "Amish raised cage free". I called the farm and they said there are a 'few' roosters with the hens but not many. Hopefully I get a few fertile ones out of the lot.

OK, I got 1 chick out of 8 dozen eggs. :th

From one of a dozen Vital Farms eggs, bought from Natural Grocers. I had bought lots of different brands to try.
5.99 a dozen.

The little yellow chick.

hokankai, if you can get them from Trader Joes and if they say fertile on them AND if you can get them close to todays date (Julian calendar today is 034) you may have an excellent hatch rate. My eggs were 8 days old, I think, and I put 12 in, broke one by being a klutz, another didn't start, leaving me with 10, and 8 hatched. Of course, you can also get a bad batch? But it seems to me, if you get Trader Joe's fertile eggs, they will be fertile??

Really sorry your bad hatch rate, tazcat :(

Hope you get some growing, Adam!

My TJ chicks are 3 weeks now. One has splayed leg. I guess I am going to find out how leghorn chickens taste! I hear that there is not much meat, but that's ok.

Here they are! These are the Rock Island babies. Four hatched this weekend. One was waiting for me when I got home from work Friday - the four really did space out their hatches as well! So polite - allowed each other to finish. :) Eleven (out of a dozen) made it to lockdown, but just the four emerged. I wonder if my forced air incubator made the air too dry? Anyway, I'm pleased with them. They are all pale yellow, and one has a black dot on its back.

Holy guacamole, it sounds like we had identical hatches! Spoooky!
