Commercial flocks of fertile egg chickens often have roos of a different color than the hens.... Makes it easy to do a head count, I guess, for roon ratio.

How can you tell? I would like to guess what mine are! ...can barely tell them apart

One way is odds. 50/50. Another way is because one is feathered differently than the other and one has a black dot on it's head and is fuzzier than the other. It kind of supports my odds theory.

If you cross a non white roo with a California White (which is California Grey x white leghorn hen ), wouldn't you expect some nonwhite chicks? The closest thing to nonwhite I see is faint spots of grey.

Yes, you go to trader joes, find the cartons that say Fertile Eggs, and you pick out the freshest box, and incubate them, and they hatch.
