Time for pics!

Not any ol' eggs will hatch. They need to be marked "Fertile" on the box. And then your hatch viability is dependent upon egg handling, refrigeration time, shell integrity and a host of other factors that make hatching TJ eggs a challenge. Sometimes random "free range" eggs have a roo out there, but you do not know until you crack an egg or two to check for the embryonic bullseye.

Definitely time for more pics. I just candled my store-bought eggs and found 9 developing 1 quitter and 2 not fertile. I would say that is pretty good for store bought eggs. They are due to hatch on 5/19 so I will keep everyone updated.

0-hatch from my first attempt of TJ's fertile eggs. I thought I saw a fresher batch of eggs on May 27 when I was at the local Trader Joe's. So here I go again. Due hatch is on June 17 with barnyard mix eggs. I put six each in the incubator (also with Barnyard mix) and under broody hen. I candled last night and it looks like 10 eggs are viable from the TJ's bunch (white eggs) and a total of 10 also from the BYmix.

These eggs are under my broody hen (white ones are TJ's browns are BYmix). The others are in the bator.

Yes I did tonight. It looks like all are quitters except one. I will leave them in there until day17. Hopefully the ones under my broody hens are still viable. I will candle again on day 17.

Feardom, where did the eggs come from? I am thinking that different egg producers have different roo to hen ratios. The TJ eggs seem to have a bad fertility ratio, but the Rock Island Eggs I set were great with 10/12 fertile.

I just picked up a dozen eggs from a farmer's market that was setup outside my local park. The package says they are from 6-6, so 4 days old & they're from a farm about 5 miles from me. They had the eggs in a mini fridge outside & they were pretty cold, is there any chance they'll hatch after being in a fridge? I know TJ's or any grocery store has their's refridgerated so I'm guessing there's a chance? They are very large, probably jumbo, brown eggs from free ranged hens that do run with roosters.
