Trader Joes & Other Grocery Store Egg Hatching Club - Are you a Member

Pics
We only have a 3-egg bator. We went today and got a dozen fertile eggs from Trader Joe's, but last time I bought fertile eggs there (to eat, not to hatch), they were brown eggs. We didn't realize until we got them home that these are all white eggs, most likely will produce leghorns.

I am just having one heckuva disappointing day.

Edited to clean up my language.

Its funny, I was just thinking about trying store bought eggs when I saw this thread today. We have a whole foods and a trader joes here in town. I will try to keep myself outta there, but Im sure I wont be able to stop wondering, until I try it for myself. Sounds like fun.

Think of it this way. What you hatch and don't keep you can sell to cover food costs for your flock.

When I hatch some out that's what I'll be doing.

I also have some interest since greyeyes hatched TJ egg for the NY hatch. I called the ones here and they never heard such a thing. They are an hour away, but when I head up that way I will be stopping in.

I went to a Dollar General today a bought their eggs, Green Valley Farm in VA. So pretty local to NC. Then at Walmart bought Farmhouse Eggs, cage free, organic etc. I am going to set them tomorrow night or Sat. morning. Of course calling it the eggspirement, LoL My kids are so into this hatching, we have even turned my mom. I am taking pics and documenting everything.

Now that I know this thread is here, I will keep you all upddated.

Now off to read this thread from the beginning.

Went to the Trader Joe's in Richmond, VA. They carried organic eggs but none of the boxes were marked fertile. I checked the Eggland website and as I recall, they said their hens were free ranged but there were no roosters in the flock. Iat was a while back so double check-my memory may not be correct.

No fertile eggs at Trader Joes in the Midwest....

Maybe you all knew that already........i didn't until I went to get some yesterday.

The dairy guy looked at me and laughed, then got that look on his face that says, "OMG he's serious...maybe I shouldn't be laughing" Anyway, looks as though the whole fertile eggs fad is a W. Coast thing.

bummed out...I really wanted to try this
