Looks like you got one of each? (pullet and cockerel)

I agree. Funny thing is you could almost tell from day one. I have never seen such an obvious male. They are so different! He is always in front of her, protecting her. Then that look he gives you! Had very strong legs very early on and of course the comb... Very interesting to watch the two! I was not going to keep him but now I don't know. Maybe would be an interesting mix with my black minorcas or anconas...

That's what I've read about Leghorns. Hopefully having an extremely docile hen as their mother will help them a little.

My leghorns (ideal 236s) are not flighty at all and are probably my favorites of the flock. They do like height, though. They like to perch on chairs, wheel barrows, whatever is more on my level. One of them does tend to "freak out" if something surprises her, though.

Thanks! I am hoping to add some pullets to my city flock so these little ones will be perfect. I handled them a bit yesterday and they weren't dramatic at all about it so I was pleased. I've had some EE's pitch royal fits over lesser so that was a good sign

Oh,yes, they do like height!

Mine have taken to roosting on the top of an old baker's rack I keep on the back porch. All snuggled next to each other. They like to get into the tree cover during the day, too, instead of laying about on the ground like their heavier flock-mates.

I, too, thought a leghorn roo would cross well on my hens... Just think of what super layers I could produce crossing with Cinnamon Queens! Unfortunately, I had a 40-lb. tyrant roo in a nearly 3-lb body. He was just too nasty mean to wait that long for results.....He had to go because he was such a nuisance to all with his sometimes stealth attacks....even to the hens. Great. Maybe I could produce a super layer, but with THAT personality? No thanks! And, yes, he loved to attack from overhead. (Leghorns do enjoy the height....maybe it's a little chicken complex?) The pullet I had was very, very skittish and you never could get close enough to get a hand on her without the chicken wire leg-catcher. But -- yahoo! -- she put out a white egg everyday for nearly a year before the raccoons got her (they enjoy height, too!)

Cutie chicks! Good work all you hatchers!

Well, DH just checked our new Trader Joes and they have fertile eggs!!!! One box was 2 1/2 weeks old, one is 10 days and one is 8 days. Off to the bator they go.

Why not, seems like fun trial. Besides, if ANY hens hatch out, that's $7.50 for white egg layers. Works for me.
