I put 6 under a broody hen on the 11th.
I have to help my father move out of his own apartment (in another state) and in with my family this month.
Is it okay that I am scheduling that important event so that it does NOT coincide with hatching day?

My kids were home alone on my first hatch day. I had some place I had to be that day. I'm surprised any of the chicks lived after they told me they did to them.

Have fun moving dad :)

thanks cluck cluck and what did i do - by the way what did your kids do?
anyway im sure if any of the chicks hatch (im dubious) they will be tough as nails

it will be a blessing and a curse moving and having dad here. its whats best for him.
he is actually very receptive to it. im his only child and since im a nurse i think he's
feeling very well taken care of.
im sure he will LOVE the hens! how could you not?

Aww, that's great!. I'm also wondering what What did I do's kids do, LOL

I'm so glad I only have one more day until lock-down! I'm so tired of turning the little buggers, but on the other hand, I'm so afraid we've come so far and still might lose them in the end! It's scary!

When the eggs started hatching the kids just couldn't keep their hands off the incubator. When I got home they had taken every chick out 3 or 4 times. The chicks had gone back and forth between the brooder and the incubator. They removed shells every time a shell was empty. I'm thinking the incubator was open more than it was closed. All the chicks that hatched lived but there were a few that quit just before hatching.

I was gone early am to late evening so they did this all day long. My kids did enter these chicks into the fair and got a grand champion ribbon on them. They sold a pen of 3 for $300 - an over inflated price for sure. The man that bought them was just supporting my kids because he likes them. We did make the offer of those chickens, eggs from them for a year or trade for the Cornish CX we butchered a month ago. It is too hot for CX here at fair time.

There is a great post in this section about hatching eggs in a nursing home. It has inspired me to see if our 4-h group can do that next spring. I hope your dad enjoys the chicks. I hope my kids will hatch some chicks for me when I'm old. :)
