Traffic School - Ticket In One State - Live In Another

We didn't see any info on the ticket about traffic school and we called the court of Elko Nevada (where we got the ticket) who said that they send the info to the Carson City DMV who then send it to the CA DMV and that the CA DMV would be the ones that we work with for traffic school options?

Yup, we just paid the ticket, but I'm confused. How could a license be suspended just for a simple speeding ticket, especially if my record is otherwise spotless? I mean, if I was doing 85 in a construction zone listed at 45 I could understand it maybe being an issue, but my ticket ended up as something like 10 over the 45 limit in a non-construction zone (the officer was being "nice" I guess), so I would be shocked if it became a problem above higher insurance rates.

I'm from Louisiana, and got a ticket for speeding in Texas a few years ago. I paid the ticket, and it never did show up on my record here in Louisiana. Now, this was about 5 years ago, so it may be different now, but you can hope. Good luck.

So, all the peeps that get lawyers to get them "knocked down" at what price point is it worth it to do so? I mean, the lawyer isn't going to be cheap, right? A friend told me "the court fees are pre-determined…yes they can come down if you plead a good case to the judge….the money spent on the lawyer would be more then the potential savings. "

In MO a lawyer could get rid of it w/o you ever having to go to court, lol.

I guess we're lucky. I can tell you from experience, they don't do that in Georgia. They laughed at me when I asked.

I would say it won't even effect ur insurance. Speeding violations usually don't unless you acquire so many in a certian amount of time or it takes points off ur record. Look up the point system for CA and see what it says.

Unless you are also having to pay yearly for the insurance hike you recieve if your insurance goes up. You have to weigh which is better....higher insurance for 5 yrs till the point comes off or a predetermined lawyer fee and one time court fee.

The thing is, different states, different laws. Here, you can lose your license if you are 15 miles over the limit, no prior record. It depends on what the circumstance is. You could possibly be fine, no more penalty or insurance or suspension issues. Problem is, you can't know for sure without checking. Best thing to do is just call an attorney in the jurisdiction where you got it. Do NOT talk to anyone who wants money just to tell you what the law is. There are places who will just give you a simple answer to a simple question- and your question is simple- can you lose your license or will you get points for what you plead to. You can start with the Clerk of Court- if they are nice they can tell you what the law is. If I can help, let me know. I will call them for you if you want.
