Trapping thread

We live trapped a skunk but did not want to release it back onto our own property. We live very near national forest. Holding a sheet up in front of me like a shield, I approached the trap and then gently covered the trap with it. We put the trap in the back of the truck and drove to the forest. Keeping the trap covered, we removed it from the truck and set it on the ground. Lifting the sheet in a way to keep it between us and the skunk, we released the catch. Skunk ambled out and into the forest, never looking back - I was peeking over the top of the sheet to see! The sheet was a loss, of course. As long as the skunk cannot see you, it has no reason to panic and spray.

We have a lot of coyotes. Here nothing preys on coyotes but they will prey on other predators such a bobcats and fox, whatever they can catch, including chickens. My birds are pretty safe. I've learned from previous losses, electric wire around my coops and pens, heavy duty netting covering the pens and concrete under the gates to the pens. I see a predator most nights on one of my game cameras. One of my neighbors has some coyote dens on his property and has asked some people if they want to hunt them with his permission. A coyote running along behind some of the coops early this morning.

They are pretty! I think

Pretty??! Coyotes??! Not when they're mangy and/or eating your flock! Now I suppose if you were to capture one, vet treat it, wash and groom it and train it it would be interesting.

I see coyotes most every night on at least one of my game cameras.
